Can we spare a thought for all the firefighters and other emergency services who ran Towards the Twin Towers on that day too.

Hero is a word that I sometimes think get bandied about too freely.

Those guys were heroes xx

Chams or Socials

I was sat at home with a 12 day old baby watching it on the news & wondering what sort of world he'd been born into.

My in laws were in Las Vegas & my grandparents actually on a flight to USA for a family wedding - they were diverted to Calgary. It was a terrifying day.

5 years later my brother was serving in Iraq - he came home but so many friends didn't.

May they all RIP, they'll never be forgotten.

I can't believe it is 14 years. We watched a harrowing programme last night about those fireman who were first on the scene. Heroes indeed.

14 years: remember that day clearer than yesterday. We all gathered around televisions at work watching in total silence and disbelief, almost denying what our eyes were showing us.

A very sad day for humanity.

Rip to the innocent.

North London / Herts

I'd spent all summer of 2001 working in Manhattan. The week before had been to Windows on the World restaurant at the top of the WTC for brunch. That week I was out of the city on holiday in Spain, sat wearing a shirt I'd bought from the shopping mall beneath the towers when it all started coming through on the news. Horror that friends and colleagues would be caught up. Helpless.

The girl I tipped for serving that brunch is still in my mind. I like to think she was not on shift.

Very sad. The world can be a miserable place. The death and heart ache from all the struggles since are awful.

James

PS less than 5 years later I was stuck on the met line between Aldgate and Edgware Road for several hours. It's a small world, but I don't fear terrorism and I value and defend our freedom more.

Agreed

I have numerous friends in New York and this is something they have to confront every year and often with dread that it could happen again

Rather than limit it only to one nationality or ethnicity, it seems like an appropriate day to spend a brief moment thinking about all the pain and suffering that has resulted from acts of terrorism over the years, regardless of nationality and ethnicity. I believe this is a better way of paying our respects to those who died on that day.

I was home for lunch, remember thinking what a terrible accident. Then I saw the second plane.

Had to go to a meeting that night, none of us could talk about anything else.

I make my way through this darkness

I can't feel nothing but this chain that binds me

Lost track of how far I've gone

How far I've gone, how high I've climbed

On my back's a sixty pound stone

On my shoulder a half mile line

Come on up for the rising

cant believe it was 14 years ago...

remember like it was yesterday being sat in the barbers shop getting my hair cut when the news report was on the tv after the first plane had it

me and the old guy cutting my hair just stopped everything and started watching. And then the 2nd plane hit live on tv

was beyond shocking to watch
