Are the authorities still looking for that guy who walked out of an open prison a month ago? They should put him on the programme, if they could find him. |

They probably only have a poster in a mostly locked shut police station for him. |

Liquidating a bank account to cash would trigger concern. If you're about to go on the run then you may be suspected of something anyway.

In that case I'm off to squirrel away some cash now then. I'll hide it under my bed until I need it.
In all seriousness, I'd contact the person I trust most in the world. Via a phone box. He would help me. And no-one knows he's my person so they'd never suspect a thing. |

Get in a sailing boat and go for a sail around the UK. Pay for everything in cash, never visit major population areas.
Or find ne of the better kept WW2 observation bunkers and live in that. |

The channel isn't too big - I'd probably steal a boat or something and cross that. Maybe swim the last 1/2 mile to a shore. I'm fairly certain that would buy me enough time while they searched more locally to head deep on to Europe. |

Just go to Spain. Every other British criminal fugitive seems to have lived there at some time or another in comfort and without having to hide. Or was that just the 70s?

It's surprisingly easy to "cheat" most surveillance and cameras once you realise the programming used.
Facial recognition stops working if it can't match certain criteria,
Gait, posture, stride, speed, etc are all used to ID someone - however change even one slightly and it throws a spanner in the works.
Facial hair/ none, long/short, dark/blonde.
All these can be changed in hours and back again with ease.
Think how the theatre works with characters and then translate that into real life.
You could walk past your own partner and not realise if someone knows what they are doing.... |

O think it would be incredibly hard to stay hidden in today's world, without the help of someone to help accommodate you.
If you were wanted by authorities then I assume your photo is circulated widely.
So other than using new wigs, colours and hair styles, I'm not sure what I could do.
Small bed and breakfast places would possibly be easier than hotels - the latter expecting credit or debit cards - and overseas places would want ID.
Summer would be preferable to winter weather, if living outdoors. Scotland would likely be easier than the rest of the UK for roaming and sleeping outside.
Cameras are on most public spots now, where facial recognition software could find you. Avoiding major town railway stations, instead using intermediary long distance bus/coach pickups could get around that - maybe.
But in smaller quieter towns people could remember you better.
Guessing use of hats, scarves etc could help block facial recognition to an extent.
Multiple clothes changes needed, so that appearance doesn't link you to sightings in different towns. As would wig and hair colour changes.
Obviously no mobile use, calls to people you're known to, bank use or internet account use.
Prepaid phone unregistered, topped up with cash in tiny corner shops, if absolutely needed but no calls that the authorities and others could trace. Disposal of phone and other traceable stuff repeatedly.
Avoidance of fingerprint deposits at all times, similarly with DNA, so no facials or other unrestricted fun. Gloves worn in high summer
Hitch hiking is so uncommon that you may even have to revert to cycling on an anonymous bike, using multiple local buses etc. All shopping at ripoff prices small locals. And varying all visited places, to remain as unknown as possible.
I think it would be very very hard. |

to the posters saying about going abroad - the rules in the program are uk only.
cash - they allow you an account with £450 - draw that all in the first hour - probably using cashpoint location in a different direction to the way you end up going.
small tent, 2nd hand bike from pawn shop, national park. disguise - summer bike helmet and waraparound shades - winter, hat, glasses.
plenty of small shops in the villages in the national parks not likely to have networked cctv to top up with essentials.

I haven't seen any bribery in this new programme yet but I'll keep an eye out.
I wouldn't trust the camera crews with each of them though. |

I found it mostly annoying, especially when that woman called home. I think having a camera crew with you is a distinct giveaway.

If I was going to phone from anywhere it would be done via a more complex routing than A dials B on a phone line. Probably some mix of call forwarding cascades and cash prepaid phone cards and pay as you go accounts. All phones and accounts only ever used once. Of course short duration calls and partial messages delivered via several people could be helpful too.
Even better if you just never use it. |

Yes, I've enjoyed it tonight.
I think if I was doing it Id get a few prepaid sims, for one time use only, and distribute them beforehand to selected contacts. But far better to make no calls whatsoever. In the real world the government would track you quickly from it and private detectives etc have contacts that they use in telecoms companies. |

Yeah Shag - all things TV related, you are the man!
I've been watching the last few weeks, since coming back from hols. But these people on the run seem pretty slack in what they do and how they show themselves. I'm not seeing many attempts to disguise themselves, yet a few quid for hair colour, cutting your own hair and beards would drastically change appearance.
As for phoning home frequently!! |

Yeah, it's annoyed me too much. They should have sought more and better contestants, perhaps with rounds to win entry to the final series. The hunters and hunted have both been irritating. The dark haired guy hunter is nice.
Why would people feel so needy to keep calling home! Jeez, you're on the run.
They should only have done it to and from one time use prepaid sim cards.
Saw bugs being planted last night but was losing interest. And dumb locals prepared to shop someone wanted for unknown reasons, that's maddening too. |

"Yeah Shag - all things TV related, you are the man!
" That's right. I know all things about the programs. |

"There's a new series starting on Ch4 tomorrow where 'ordinary' people try to go on the run.
How would you avoid being found?
"
Mr.
I am the world's most instantly forgettable person
I would just walk down Street as normal. Hunter's would walk straight past me. |

That's easy I'd go to a night club, I always seem invisible there to women and when trying to be served at the bar. |

Most of the people are annoying and have no prep. Probably thought "I can do it"
Half of them have failed.
The way to win is to become someone else. Your habits, friends, etc, will all be looked at.
Learn how to use make up. Not to look fabulous, although you can if you want, I mean to soften your features,
This couple will get caught. |

"Its on 9pm tonight."
Thanks again Shag
I've been disappointed again with this and the stupid things most of them have done.
I think maybe the tv company didn't necessarily select the participants most likely to succeed but the ones they thought would be best tv. I'm not sure they made such a great show though. I feel sure it could have been a lot better. |

Get several pre paid sim cards, use each one once then bin it.
Stay away from villages, towns and cities, never use public transport.
If you have a vehicle, get some fake plates, I know it is illegal, but you are on the run.
Lay up during the daytime move only at night, do a bit of research and find a place you know like the back of your hand.
If you can try to learn how to live off the land. |

"One thing they who get caught has in common, is they all contact their families. Its their weak point."
I only watched the first one and that really bugged me. I've got the rest recorded but I can't decide whether to bother watching them. I think if you commit to doing a show like that you really need to commit 100%. |

I missed the first one, as on hold, though joined the discussion here.
I think they're chosen a pretty dumb group, or used some other unifying characteristic. They run hundreds of miles away and then use a payphone in a town or village with a couple of hundred people living there.
They should have planned to do something really interesting whilst away. Watch box sets, learn something, anything but be bored and need to call home.
They obviously had notice, to get time off work. They've just seemed I'll prepared |
