I bought a Ipad 2 recently and it has been working fine, up until this evening, when I bought it I checked to see if there was a apple account linked to it and there was not and added my own account, and even set up "find my ipad app" tonight I decided to do a full reset but then it came to the activate ipad screen. It's asking me to sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this ipad. Has anyone had this issue? Or has anyone got any advice? |

"Use your apple I'd that you used to turn on find my iPhone "
It's not letting me, I have tried this. It's saying put the ID that was used to set up the ipad. |

Found this on google, i don't have an iPad.
"Just but the iPad in Dfu mode. Hold down the home and power button for 15 seconds connected to the iTunes. iTunes will detect an iPad in recovery mode. Restore the iPad this will delete all the content in the iPad making it like a brand new device. Once it's finished you can sign in with your apples and use iCloud etc." |

Thanks, but after lots of research then contacting Apple seems like the ipad will now be used as a doorstop. Bloody apple but tbf my fault for buying a secondhand Ipad. |

"take it into an apple store.... they should be able to do what another person in the thread suggested (which is in effect a hard reset)"
If it's linked to an iCloud account, they'll not be able to help cos it's possibly stolen. Only way really is to contact the seller.
Or if they paid via credit card, to get the CC to reverse the charge. |

When I bought the Ipad I checked the icloud and "find my app" and it was all turned off. I even put my own details in asap. Yesterday I tried to log on to my fab, but it was restricted so I thought I'd do a reset, that's when the activation lock come on. Apple wernt very helpful they said contact the previous owner, and sent me a link |

You needed to do a complete factory reset when you got it. Can you not contact the seller? |

Some people have had problems after a family member died, and it was left to them in the will - apple weren't particularly helpful. I think they're more interested in just selling new shiny stuff to us.
Good luck op! |

Yes agreed. I've managed to bypass the activation screen. Via a little trick I found (DNS change) Can surf the net on it but not much else. The ipad isn't actually reported lost/stolen it's just that the previous owner has not logged out, they should have a bypass. |

it could possibly be stolen ???
if you get no joy from the seller on a facebook page I would contact your local police and report it...
fact is if its legit the previous owner may well give the passbook but if you cant get it unlocked I would definitely contact the police...

Good point. But surly if it was stolen the original owner would have put it in lost/stolen mode. Meaning that when you powered it on it would have had a message saying this ipad has been stolen/lost and asking me to ring a number. Also when I phoned up Apple earlier I gave them the serial number and they never flagged it up. |
