Mom is the Americanised version isn't it? But more and more in use now I've noticed over here (a bit like the use of the word 'panties' instead of 'knickers' etc) |

Yes, and it sounds horrible,; we seem to be using more and more Americanisms here and for the most part they are clumsy and inelegant words and phrases.
My dictionary lists 'panties' as brief knickers but does not attribute it's source as being American.

I can't bring myself to shop in Sainsbury's after their advert talks about "mac and cheese". But I think mom is used in certain parts of UK. |
