So im naturally lazy when it comes to exercise. I love to do it but its getting me to go in the first place.
Whenever ive got friends to come ive kept it up for months till they dropped out.
Whats your tips for getting me out the door and keep to it up? |

Go on the way home from work - I used to go swimming with my daughter, straight from work - meant we did not get home until 9 pm (starting at 6:30 am in the morning) so it was a long day though |

Don't go home from work, go straight to the gym, turn it into a competition and beat your goal each session, have something to aim for like a 10k run. Get a good playlist together
Oh and perv in the changing rooms haha |

Find the exercise that you really enjoy doing then it will come naturally.
I've been doing Pilates for years and rarely miss a class as I luvre it, where as the gym is a chore which I force myself to do and will find any excuse not to go! |

Same. I get really anti social in the gym...I'm the one growling and sweating in the corner going into hulk mode...I get really pissed off with people who just go to be seen, or sit there on the phone. |

I am going to join a gym this week. The "new users induction" is on Sat, so I might give it a couple of days.
My motivation is a size 44 waist, ok it doesn't look bad on someone who is 6ft 5, but I gave up meeting people because all i can see is my massive stomach |

Its not just weight but body composition...doing resistance exercise will get you into a fat burning zone in a few minutes rather than cardio. Muscle burns calories at a constant rate. |

My motivation was entering a 5km run and being passed by a man 30 years older than me
That was the only kick up the hole I needed, 12 months later and I'd now leave that guy in my dust, it can be done |

I'm trying to get fit and use a gym, but hit a wall often as go on my own and don't have a gym buddy to motivate me and make me go!
I think having a friend to go with you and encourage you makes all the difference!

I did a yoga class that was awful boring and full of mumbo jumbo.
Did plates and it was really goo the trainer was excellent and hands on but annoyingly the class is always fully booked so it's almost impossible to get on.
People basically leave the class walk to the desk and instantly book on for next week.
Some of the moves /positions at wkilelrs though I went in back bad like you but thinking me I'm an 85kg dude these are all like 55kg ladies I'll boss this.
At the end I'm a sweating shivering mess and they're all happily discussing lunch lol. |

The Strong lifts program has a free app.
Keeps track of your weights and routine and automatically increases the weight every session for you.
Big compound moves as long as there's a rack wiwith a set of spotter arms at your gym your sorted.

Research evidence shows that successful adherence long term is significantly higher for those doing exercise that they enjoy. Work it in your favour and choose what you like - maybe it's not a gym routine.
As others point out, a schedule that can become a routine most easily is ideal. Think and plan for when. If my motivation ebbs, I still go, even if just to perve at my university students. It keeps the routine making it a habit. |

Just as a thought if its motivation try signing up for a charity event.
I have been coaching a group of ladies who were organising an all female amateur boxing fight night for breast cancer.
And next week I am part of a 12 man team doing an event for battle of Britain....between us we have to lift 1,545,000 kg (1000kg for every aircraft lost) and 544 miles (1 for every aircrew lost) in 24 hours |

Whenever ive got friends to come ive kept it up for months till they dropped out.
Whats your tips for getting me out the door and keep to it up?
If you lived nearer madam id be your gym buddy...im wanting a gum bud too it makes it more fun instead of going alone and gives you both the incentive to get on with it
If you 2 are going to get all sweaty, can I join in? "
No...ladies only |

best way is play a sport as you enjoy it and dont think if it as exercise. otherwise think you have to have a goal. enter an event or set a target to fit into a size of clothes for that day in december. |

I sometimes find it hard to motivate myself too, went last night and really enjoyed it and going to pop over later too.
Getting on the scales when I am sticking to my diet and being more active definitely motivates me. |

Whilst we're talking all things gym can I hijack the thread for a moment?!
Can anyone recommend an easy to follow gym programme App for iPhone
~ is there such a thing?
My gym is one of the cheap n cheerful variety and the programmes they come up with haven't been particularly effective. |

I think gym is overated !!!
Arrange to meet people for a run somewhere nice......and if you have to meet someone you are more likely to do it......
So running ...sit ups...and press ups is all you need xx |

Find yourself some classes which you enjoy...bodypump, body combat, insanity...whatever that one based on dancing is called...anything. Classes have the added attraction of being social and meeting up with the same people (some of who you might really hit it off with) and this helps with motivation too....group workouts are much easier (in terms of motivation) and more fun for most people...check out what's on offer around your neck of the woods...
Failing that, you need a jolly good fuck session....and one where you do most of the work...every day...or, perhaps twice a day at least 4 times a week... |

Depends what your goals are....oh, and no one ever got a six pack (not suggesting that is what the OP is after)from doing sit ups...a lean mid section is all about the right diet and reducing body fat sufficiently. ~What's more, if a bloke wants a bit more muscle mass, then sit ups and press ups are not going to achieve that either... |

Haven't read all the replies so apologises if this has been said but if you're struggling to find the motivation to get out the house to exercise then why not exercise at home? Treat yourself to a few different exercise DVDs (i recommended the Davina McCall ones).
I used to be the same but I got into the routine of doing the exercise DVDs a few times a week and eating healthier and I've lost 2 stone. Some of the workouts are surprisingly fun to do as well. Much cheaper alternative to a gym membership! |

I thinkni found it harder at home.

"I have PT twice a week which in itself is motivation. However, he's recently moved studios, so now we train in a studio inside a MMA gym. So total perv session going on as I'm training. I fancy a personal trainer but i think their out of my budget lol"
I met with one who charges £15 an hour. I went for a free consultation. Unfortunately he was totally hot so the only work out I got was giving him a handjob |
