"I charge £300 but I will have to increase the price a little now. As we have to fit new metal fuseboards bloody regulations"
It is annoying. Mind you so is your house burning down because your fuse board has gone on fire. |

"So £500 + vat would be good if it involves the electrics elsewhere but bad for just fuseboard and installation?" I wouldn't pay any more than £300 to be honest but there is a lot of competition in this area so prices are lower.

I'd run a mile if an electrician said I needed a new fuseboard. Fuseboards went out 30 years or more ago, replaced by a box of circuit breakers (no fuses) called a consumer unit - I'd suggest you get one of those fitted. |

If it happens to your house, once is enough. |

Best prank I ever pulled on site was to set a flue test smoke bomb off next to a fuse board (or consumer unit)
That the electrician had been working on, the look of terror on his face was priceless |

"How much should it cost do you reckon, including installation.
Many thanks"
Buy your own consumer unit, You can pick them up for under £100 then ask a electrician to fit it, 2 hours max unless more work is needed like upgrading gas/water earths |

Yes it'll be a consumer unit, it has to be to pass future regs. |

Fuse boards are still common parlance amongst many people for a consumer unit.
Also consumer units can have fuses or MCB/RCBOs. It is a term which was used in the days of fuses too.
In larger scale applications the main incoming supply will still be BS88 or other types of fuses depending on the prospective fault current and depending on what it is protecting.
I know everything I just wrote is very boring but there is no need to be sniffy towards the fuse. It is a venerable and useful object. |
