I'd be lying if I said I haven't considered it but once you start dying your hair you can never stop. Additional upkeep is also a pain in the arse. |

I think grey on men can be very attractive. George Lamb, for example, is extremely attractive.
I still dye my hair though. Don't think grey is as attractive on me. |

Really? A woman who is comfortable in her own skin and happy to rock the grey is infinitely sexier than one that constantly dyes their roots, then straightens it, then curls it, then God knows what else...
There was one recently at the wall and she was absolutely stunning.
Hair pulled back into a soft ponytail, no crap slapped on her face, sheen of sweat on her skin, broad shoulders and a tiny waist - she moved like a ballerina.
But what made her so was the fact she was just "her" nothing more and it showed.
Ladies - seriously stop with all the crap. We don't want half of Boots - we want you and just you. |

I don't think that's true. I feel like you want a woman who looks effortless as opposed to a woman that puts zero effort in. They're very different things. Random grey hairs can make you look untidy. And it also ages a younger woman significantly.
Anyway, I feel more attractive having coloured my hair. It shouldn't make me less attractive, no one would even know. |

If a woman feels she can pull of the grey hair look then she absolutely should. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer in my post, at 25 I didn't want to be grey. At 42 I still have no wish to go grey. My skin is pale and my hair has always been very dark brown. I'm not terribly vain, I don't do high maintenance but I dye my hair because I like the way it looks, I don't keep my appearance how I like it for other people. If I wanted my hair to be grey then I'd let it grown out naturally.

I'd rather have someone who was dressed and made up in a way that she was really comfortable and confident.
I know I feel better with my hair and clothes in a certain way and I'd feel very uncomfortable meeting someone if I felt untidy or unattractive. |

Read what I wrote again.
Or perhaps ask a guy rather than whatever magazine happens to have the latest article about "what xyz really wants".
As got no one knowing? If you believe that then the marketing really has worked
Of course we can tell. You really think guys believe that lovely shade of Plum is natural?
Or that your roots go blonde?
Or that your eyebrows are actually that shape and you haven't just sat on the wrong bit of your bike saddle.....
Of course we know - we just don't usually say anything as it's not worth the grief.
Think "does my bun look big in this?" But higher up.. |

I'm a brunette, and I get mine coloured to match my natural colour. No one notices when I've had it coloured, not even my mum as it's solely to hide my greys. I still think what you wrote is arrogant and presumptuous - it is as bad as those magazines you mentioned demanding beauty standards as you're telling women how to present themselves so you'll find them attractive.
I honestly don't think you want an ungroomed woman, one who hasn't made an effort. You want someone who hasn't overdone it. There's a difference. I am told frequently by my female and male colleagues that I have great skin and I'm lucky I don't have to wear make up - that's just because I wear a powder to stop shine. I'm still wearing make up. I do every day. |

I'm making no presumptions - I'm saying what many really think but are too scared to say.
Other than a couple who "trophy hunt" every guy I know detests the amount of time taken by wife's/partners/gf's because of what society says they should look like and do.
Not once did I say not to did I? No.
Again read what I wrote - not what you think I wrote.
Yes we like it when you make an effort.
We also like it when you are relaxed, chilled and just being yourself.
Of all of my female friends they all are most confident and comfortable when relaxed and in chill stuff, climbing, mountain biking, evening BBQ in the garden.
It's also when they are their most attractive because they are comfortable.
Societies ideals have nothing to do with what guys really want and everything to do with the marketing/cosmetics industry wanting you to keep buying their latest products. |

I started having grey hairs when I was about 19, always having to dye my parting and behind my ears. My natural hair is so bloody dark you can notice them and they ain't smooth hairs either they're like unruly wirey white pubes until I dye over them.
Men though look handsome when they have dark hair and you can see the little bits of grey mixed in. |

I'm a great believer in the natural look but because it's what I like. I don't read trashy magazines and I don't follow fashion. I dye my roots to match my natural colour because that's what makes ME happy.
I don't give a monkies what you think it the 'many' you think you're speaking for think... I like to look how I like to look and if someone doesn't like the way I look then they can move along. I won't be told what I should/shouldn't wear by you or indeed by anyone else. You are perfectly entitled to look for woman who match your non-make-up wearing preferences but don't be telling us however we should appear.
So there. |

See - that's where you're mistaken.
When you take the time to look, choose to look actually rather than just "see" you notice a hint of tinted moisturiser, perhaps that the brows are darkened - perhaps tattooed, etc.
But also when you in a climbing gym and its 25-30 degrees you also know who isn't wearing anything and whose clothes are wearing what was on their face.
Same as when you've just done 15 miles of muddy trails and you grab a sandwich you see who is smiling and relaxed and who is conscious of the fact their makeup bag is the other side of the car park .

"
So a hint of moisturiser is okay? And tattooed eyebrows are fine with you?
So it's the amount of make-up women use, the time women take to get ready to go out and when women wear make-up for activities that you find inappropriate that bothers you then?
It's all about what you want isn't it? |

"No -'it's saying stop with all the crap.
There's a fine line between looking elegantly natural and being gangbanged by Crayola.
To look elegantly natural I still need to put concealer under my eyes and my eyebrows and eyelids are tattoo'd on so can't do anything about them.
You're clearly fucked by his standards, then
Yeah but half these birds he's on about probably have got make up on, you know the essentials like concealer, maybe a slick of clear mascara, fucking men like, so blissfully unaware!

It's so weirdly specific. A very small amount of women would be in a climbing gym, and an even smaller amount would want to be judged on their appearance when they're working out.
But as long as they're presentable to him, I guess. |

They'll fade to a reddy colour. One of my old colleagues lost hers permanently after chemo, hers went the same. Touch ups sorted it out though. |

Tbh you're inconsistent and you're proselytising. I think it's dumb to chastise women for wearing make up when it makes them happy, especially when it's nothing to do with you. "

KS, just an observation from the sidelines: in your initial post you said " But what made her so was the fact she was just "her" nothing more and it showed.
Ladies - seriously stop with all the crap. We don't want half of Boots - we want you and just you."
It is easy to read the "just her" and "just you" as you don't think women should wear make-up.
But, it's easy to write things in a more extreme way than you think. And also easy to take offence where none was really intended.

I couldn't give a shit what a magazine "tells" me is the latest trend. It's incredibly patronising to assume women only choose to make an effort with their appearance because they think it's in fashion or what men want. I don't care about either.
So I'll continue to dye, curl and style my hair and wear as much makeup as I want including bright red lipstick and far too much eyeliner, because it's what I want to do.
Back to the original topic, I don't have a beard but if I did I'm sure it would be grey, I've been going grey on my head since 18. |

Eh, I'm not offended, I just think it's dumb to tell someone to let go of one set of beauty standards and pick up some that are more suited to him. It's absurd.
Anyway, he clearly only wrote it to try and win points with the ladies for appreciating their natural beauty, but telling them to stop using make up and mocking those who use it is backwards. |

Thing - I can see how that can be read. Which is why in my post it clearly states about the number of my friends who all hold that opinion. I didn't say "I" - I said "we".
I'm fully aware of the "power" of makeup, aware of just how much many women need it. How many wouldn't been seen dead putting the bins out with "their face on"?
How many do the school run looking like they're going out on a Friday night?
It all goes back to how society says they should look and how they then perceive themselves if they don't.
How many "need" that face because without it they feel insecure.
How many guys will HONESTLY tell their partners not to do all that? That they like them without it? Natural. How they look when waking up or fresh from the shower?
To counter a certain poster - the "examples" I used where ones to highlight the fact that in that environment a full face of slap looks fucking stupid.
Yet you still see it because many women think they have to be made up or they aren't attractive to men.
They don't.
They are.
It's not hard if you're honest about it but many don't seem to like it when you are honest despite spouting that they despise liars and demand openness.
Yet again for a site supposedly open about so much there are some very closed minds. |

Pretty sure lesbians wear make up too. Not everything is about looking attractive to men. Sometimes women do stuff because it makes them feel good. Why would you begrudge them that, just cos you think it looks "fucking stupid"?
It's honestly not a courageous stance you're taking, it's dumb. |

I only see closed mindedness in folks who can't understand that it's entirely possible for women choose to wear a fuck ton of makeup at an "inappropriate" time because they WANT to.
I'll wear red lipstick to the super market because I like it, or false eyelashes to the gym because I like them. Why does this have to mean I'm some sort of insecure downtrodden idiot?
Why do you assume women want to hear the opinion of you and your friends on what they choose to put on their face? I own about 50 lipsticks in different shades and textures. That ain't to impress some bloke who probably can't tell the difference between pink and coral. It's for me, because I like and enjoy makeup. |

Don't feel disgust at a few hairs losing pigment . If you want to cover a couple of greys go and have a few discreet high lights put in. |

Before using a home hair dye why not see a good colourist / hairdresser for advice & see what they suggest.
Depending on how the grey is you may be able to incorporate it more naturally using highlights / low lights / a different style etc.

You can buy what looks like eyeshadow that you brush into your roots as a temporary cover.

"Grey hair on men can be sexy... grey hair on women, not so much. I've been dyeing my roots since I was 25.
"
Applause to Dirtygirl for saying exactly what I think on the subject. I found my first silver hair at 11 buy I love being a super dark haired brunette and always have done. I love the contrast with my pale freckled skin and blue eyes. I may embrace the grey one day but I am not ready to yet. Make-up, nails etc. I can take or leave depending on whether or not I can be arsed but my hair is my one girlie vanity and I refuse to apologise for it. |

A friend came round yesterday and she has a lot of grey hair now. She put even more grey highlights in it and then uses a wash in dye rinse. The grey hair takes the colour well and gave the grey hair a gorgeous light lilac tone. She looked stunning! |

I love the contrast with my pale freckled skin and blue eyes. I may embrace the grey one day but I am not ready to yet. Make-up, nails etc. I can take or leave depending on whether or not I can be arsed but my hair is my one girlie vanity and I refuse to apologise for it."
I've been colouring mine since I was 14, have been every colour I can think of & don't intend stopping anytime soon!!!
I was born with red hair but it turned a boring shade of brown - I prefer being dark red - it suits my pale skin, blue eyes & freckles.
I think with grey hair I'd look like a bottle of milk |

I think grey hair looks disguinshed on a man.
I've dyed my hair since I was 12 years of age, but funnily when I went blonde a few weeks a go it was a toss up of blonde or my natural colour, at 50 I don't have any grey hair but I take my genes from my mum and grandad, my best friend was pure white at 28.
Having my hair coloured on Wednesday as now it's blonde the dark roots show through quicker which they didn't do when I was red.

"I don't see how anyone is surprised!
Just... look at old people...
If you're lucky enough, you'll get to be one.
Be nice to them.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
"I remember a poem from school about a woman growing old & dying her hair purple or something? Off to google....."
Warning by Jenny Joseph. Someone bought it for me as a little book for my 40th.
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
