If women ruled the world...

Ok, so it’s primarily a man’s world, if you just look at who holds the keys of power. And in a lot of cases, it‘s quite a fucked up, crazy world we live in as well. A huge percentage of the seats of power and the top jobs are filled by men. The Presidents, the Prime Ministers, the heads of all the big banks and businesses, the heads of military, the religious leaders, the crazy extremists etc etc. Mostly men. In some cases always men. It’s been this way forever basically.
This is way too unbalanced in my opinion. A lot of decisions seem to be made on testosterone alone. Lots of fighting and wars. Lots of abuse against women and women’s rights. This doesn't seem right to me in the twenty first century. I for one would love to see a change because this whole ‘men running things’ just doesn’t work for me. At a familial level women always seem to be in charge. They pull the strings. But you take things higher into the world of governments, big business and the big decisions that are made, and they are noticeable by their absence. I don’t want to get into why that may be but my question is this…
Would the world be a better or a safer place if women held the power? And in what ways do you think things would be different?

Actually, maybe there wouldn't be an actual organised war.
By the time they would of decided what to wear, what goes with what and doesn't make their arse look too big things would of moved on. |

To answer the question View, it is entrenched so much in a society that is Patriarchal (where male success is seen as aggressive and female success as bitchy) that things could be improved with a little less testosterone in the mix!
But do men Really hold the power that you think they do?
For example- wars are fought to protect land and wealth- that are used for what?
To protect their wives and daughters.
Fights occur in clubs every Friday and Saturday night- often over women.
Ask a married man who really holds the power in their relationship?
I bet its at least equal, if not slanted in favour of the woman!
Maybe our greatest power is allowing men to think they have the power?

Yes, I have a similar opinion. I think women are the centre of all men's worlds. They are the soul of so many things. Without them there would be no point in anything. In my little world women are in charge. |

Sadly women will not take their rightful place as leaders unless men start doing their rightful share of the child rearing / housework.
It needs to start at home.
Also, we should motivate our daughters to date/marry men who are younger than them as that way their careers will be comparatively more advanced (just because they have been doing it for longer) so if they need to choose who gives up their job they will be at an advantage. |

That is so true, in that sense. Fab itself proves that. Women hold all the cards on the sex front. They can pretty much get any man they wish. That certainly doesn't work the other way round. Most single men will testify to that. But on the world stage, in the halls of power they don't hold sway. |

I disagree. There is no need for men to do more housework or more childcare.
There's a far more radical shake up of society needed than laying the blame for womens' social and economic status at the door of her male counterparts.
Working class women have far more in common with working class men than they do with bourgeoisie women.
Class, Government , Capitalism - that is where the problems lie. That and globalization and the Governing of world matters not being in the hands of governments but in the fists of huge conglomerates. |

I understand what you're saying. Men and women generally do see things differently though. I'm sure they'd bring something different to the table. But yes I agree it would need a big change in the philosophy of how things are done as well. |

Not sure the gender of people in charge matters if they do their job properly and without bias.
Sadly human nature seems to be nepotistic and to look after their own.
There are many examples where that is not the case but the prevailing movement is clearly towards naturally increasing hegemony. That is natural in all living things and it is a conceit to think that humans have moved beyond this.
That said we should always look to give a role to the person who can carry it out in the most effective way and their physical attributes should not have any bearing unless particular attribute makes carrying out the task safely impossible.
I am yet to find a non sex based profession where ones genitals have an effect on your ability to doc job. It is almost always attitude which precludes people from certain roles. Shit attitudes are common to all genders. |
