This may not be what you want to hear... and it may also be way too much info for everyone else but I'll carry on regardless!

I've been bleeding since the beginning of May... tried everything. Had a coil fitted in September. Still bleeding only now I have the cramps from hell on a pretty much daily basis. Been back and forward to the docs who say that I need to give it six months to settle. I'm going with it but I'm not expecting miracles.

Can't really give you any advice, only speak to your doctor/family planning clinic. Most people I've spoken to who have one fitted say it's the best thing since sliced bread. The jury is still out for me at the moment. I'm sticking with it because I'm not relishing the alternative options.

I think it depends on the person, most do have bleeding and cramps, I did and most say it's the best precauction out there.

Hi there...............My wife had one of these coils for several years.Throughout that time she suffered quite a lot of pain when having sex (Thought it was due to my huge knob bashing the coil). When she went to have it removed it turns out the thing had moved and was embedded in the wall of her Uterus.Took several operations to recover the damn thing.

Im glad this was posted as I was worried when mine was fitted too.

I had it fitted and I had bleeding continuously for about 10 days, I was worried it wouldnt stop. Then I had about 4 weeks with no bleeding, then it started again and lasted for about 4 days. Then I went 2 months with no bleeding. Had a very very faint bleed, basically just a show really, lasted one day and its been 3 months and ive had no sign of any bleeding at all. I think in the first 6 months its a bit up in the air whilst your body gets used to it.

I had the mirena coil a few years ago, didn't like it as I had a constant discharge which was really watery, no periods though. Had it removed. My sis in law has just had here removed after a month - she'd got an infection with it and my daughter is having problems with her coil, bleeding after sex etc - she had hers fitted 4 and a half months ago and at the time of fitting the doctor cut her inside when she cut the strings! I found the best contraception was the injection. I'd be inclined to go back to docs just to double check.

I've had two implants... the first one worked brilliantly... for about 18 months. No periods, no side effects of note... happy days. After that I started to bleed again and the PMT was horrendous, I could have cheerfully murdered someone.

I gave up, had it taken out and did without anything for a while to try and let my body get back to normal. Got another one put in a while after and it just didn't work at all so after six months I gave up.

I'd be happy to go back on the pill I used before but apparently I'm too old, too fat and I smoke. Too many risks of cancer... given that I smoke, to be honest, I'd happy taking the risk cause quite frankly I'm sick of this.

I'm coming back as a man!!

I helped on an audit on that particular coil back in the 90's. according to that at the time it certainly did help a lot of women, but there were always the minority that had the side effects

I have had one for 2 years now with no problems and no periods in site. Although my previous coil i fell pregnant with so get it checked regularly to be sure. Unfortunately i can't have the implant or the injection after trying them both was really ill. Hormone imbalance hair fell out bitch queen from hell springs to mind so coil works well for me.

Everyone reacts differently to this, I had no bleeds, great, sex drive zilch!

When it came out had the most horrendous bleed for what seemed ages but after sex drive whooppee! If you feel okay it probably is and you may not have bleeds at all.

It works similarly to the injection with the slow release of hormones, it can take a few months to calm everything down but eventually the bleeding will stop and your periods will either be very light or non existent.

Go to the doc and ask for some mefenamic acid tablets they help settle the bleeding while waiting for the coil to work properly

I am surprised anyone in swinging uses the coil. I have always found that they dislodge very easily during energetic sex...

I am swapping from the pill to the implant. I wont use the injection because of how bad it messes up your system to much. ( had a few years on it)

I found the coil also caused infection. I tried it three times, first time my body expelled it within 3 days, 2nd time it got knocked out within a week and the last time it got dislodged, then caused me an infection and I had to have it removed.

I have heavily researched contraception to find what works best for me.

Other things people should be aware of is the pill is affected by more than the implant is.

Katie.

"Katie I am on the injection, did you bleed with yours still and did you put weight on as I have xxx"

I suffered a lot of irregular bleeding and found it hard to regulate my weight. I also suffered with violent mood swings.

i used the coil for over 20 years, (dont need it now) no probs at all apart from weight gain

only advice i can give is you MUST get it changed when its due, dont leave it and think "oh i will sort it next month" it will cause an infection

The implant releases a similar hormone to the injection so watch it doesn't mess you about in the same way it did me.
