Back off a bit before it's too late. Your body becomes immune with time and before you know it you'll need more than two or it'll be spirits. Find something better to do insteadl! Submit to other urges, I find gods sex beats a good drink every time. |

You may be becoming alcohol dependant or be a functioning alcoholic.
Not all alcoholics are shambling wrecks. Think Alastair Campbell.
Please speak to your GP or if that's a difficult step, there's plenty of advice online.
And of course if talking to your GP is too difficult a step, you may have answered your own question.

That's a lot to be honest.
2 bottles a night
14 bottles a week
60ish bottles a month
720 bottles a year
Pretty much the same as drinking 8 pints of 5% beer a night.
Your drinking over three times the units that women should regularly exceed.
And Calorie wise it's quite a lot too.
Cut back gradually and if you find it hard, the help is out there. |

There's about 7/8 units per bottle(someone will correct me if I'm wrong). Ladies are supposed to drink no more than 14 units per week safely. Do the maths!  |

That is a lot to drink. I got quite depressed last year, stuff with family and stuff outside of family life, was getting me down. A bottle of wine most nights was my friend, sometimes Id drink wine and vodka on the same night. Like others have said, see your GP perhaps you can talk to your husband while hes away, if hes able to? |

I'm glad you recognise you have a problem OP. A friend of mine (posted about it a couple of weeks ago) is a complete mess and refuses to acknowledge the issue. She's lost friends and relationships as a result as well as being hospitalised more than once. (thread was titled alcoholism)

No incorrect a drinker needs drink to be able to function walk in straight line get up not shake go to work
The mental toll it takes on partners and kids is horrible
You know they have been stealing stuff pawning engagement rings lying to keep the drink coming
Then you have to imagine what the kids think seeing this person d*unk in the hall wher they were unable to make the toilet
The problems are endless and it's a disease that is passed to those around them

However to answer the OP it does sound like you have a drink issue, you maybe what's considered a functioning alcoholic, the amount of wine you are drinking is excessive and in the long run will kill you or at least damage your liver, heart and kindneys. There are various websites such as Aquarius, addaction where there is loads of useful information and possible councelling services avaliable (funding depending in your area) there is also AA (not the breakdown people) it might be worth just speaking to someone about this as I know it sounds cheesy but you are not alone. Write down the times of day you have a drink...maybe try and cut down to say 1 1/2 bottles a night then to one bottle a night then to 1/2 a bottle but the most important step is to speak to someone. I have been in your shoes and I have cut down no end it can be done....the trouble with alcohol is that its so socially acceptable and often we do not reliase just how much we are drinking. I don't know if you're an alcoholic, but you certainly have a drink problem
As stated, two bottles is an awful lot to be drinking every night and will be affecting your health badly.
You need to disassociate your drinking and being home alone in the evenings

Get referred for drink counciling. I know people who've gone to that and they have found it really useful. They give you techniques and help on how to cut down and cut it out completely if required.
They are non-judgemental, really supportive and will try and find the root cause, as is often the case that excessive drinking is not always because of an alcohol dependency.

OP the first thing to do is go and see your GP and inform him or her of your concerns. Ask for a full blood re_iew that will include a number of tests on those parts of the body that respond in a negative way to alcohol.
As a former bottle of red a night man I had those tests and found a problem that by refraining from alcohol have abated.
I understand that being alone does not help and that a few drinks relieves the boredom but get the tests done and take it from there. Good luck |

You may not be an alcoholic, there is a difference between an excessive drinker and an alcoholic.
If you are an excessive drinker then just drink less, have days when you don't drink at all, aim over a short period of time to drink only socially never alone.
If you find that hard to do then you may have become an alcoholic in which case seek help from your doctor initially.
My wife also works away a lot, that is why we dropped the couples profile as we just don't get enough time together to share with others, I know how strange it is to be alone on the wrong evenings, but you need to find something to fill those hours that doesn't involve pouring a glass of wine.

As a landlady of 20 years I've seen more than my share of alcoholics .
And in my personal _iew there are pissheads and there are alcoholics .
If I was to tell an alcoholic that there was a party on with free beer , they'd drop everything and come running .
If I were to say the same to a pisshead , they would possibly rush through what they were doing but they would get everything done they had planned to then come running .
And if I remember correctly the 14 units a week comes from the ' 1987 sensible drinking guidelines ' but I'm not sure how much that publication was medical .
Anyway as a landlady I dont think I know any other licencees that actually stick to anything near that figure or trust it .

Just found this hope it clarifies safe limits .
Therefore the report concluded that advising on ‘safe’ levels of alcohol consumption is difficult and that there was ‘insufficient evidence to make completely confident statements about how much alcohol is ‘safe’’. However, the report argued that it is essential that this was not used as an excuse for inaction as doctors and the public need guidance which is both easily understood and reasonable.

in very rare cases an alcohol dependent patient could develop renal or cardiac complications from going cold turkey. These cases are as I said extremely rare and tend to manifest in those patients with a 10 to 15 year TDS. The Op will not die if she refrains from drinking as she has been advised previously. Posts advising her she will are stupid and wreck less |
