I think we need a crazy cat people thread to balance out the forum tonight.

I got a tip on a new brush... it's called a Zoom Groom and it was seven quid on Amazon and it removes hair she didn't know needed removing!

I love my cat.

I have a Zoom Groom but it isn't very effective on my two and the hair it does remove goes absolutely everywhere!

I want to try a Furminator.

I bought mine a new bed a couple of weeks ago, (free with loyalty points from a pet store I use), expecting neither would use it. Of course, typically, they both want it.

Zoom grooms are great as they gather up the loose hair as you go furminators tend to strip the coat down and over grooming with one can leave the coat quite coarse some cats might not like the feel

A Zoom Groom doesn't get much loose hair out of my fluffballs and definitely does not collect it all together!

It's the worst brush I've tried out of a total of five different types I've used.

A basic ballpin slicker brush gets the best results of those I've used.

"Ooh, cat brush recommendations are what I need. My pussy (well, one of them) has a tuft of matted fur one on side, despite being short haired. Exactly the same place as last summer. She looks a right scruff. "

For the mat, you need a tool called a mat splitter, which you should be able to get from a decent pet shop.

It's a narrow hook shape with a blade on the inside, a bit like a box cutter. They're designed so you can cut through matted fur but not risk cutting the cat.

You hook the narrow end of the hook through the fur under the matt and carefully, holding the base of the knotted fur (so it doesn't pull), hook it through the mat. The blade cuts through the knotted fur. A few cuts and you can usually gently pull the matted bits of fur out of the coat.

I have two very fluffy great lumps and a mat splitter is invaluable sometimes.

I'm pretty sure my ball of fluff wouldn't care what I brushed her with as long as I brush her. I've never seen a cat do that before, she'd literally let me brush her all day long.

The Zoom Groom takes out a lot of hair but it does end up everywhere but in the brush.

One of mine is addicted to being brushed too. Anyone holding a brush, be it a cat brush, a hairbrush, a clothes brush or whatever, is instantly her new best friend and has a small furry shadow.

They're more popular now than 20 years ago so the price has fallen quite a bit. But yes, they are pedigree and have pedigree prices.

They are also the most wonderful cats in the world, bar none. They have amazing natures.

The flopping thing, whilst fairly common, is down to the personality of the individual cat. Some do, some don't.

Excellent lap cats. I have two. (Raggies, not laps)

When I'm in the lounge one sits next to me.

When I'm in bed the other comes up and lays on the duvet all night.

One loves having her tummy rubbed. Wraps all 4 legs around my hand to make sure I don't stop, then her whole body judders. So cute....

Shame we can't share pussy pictures in fab.

So, we've sorted out grooming.

Where do we all stand on giving a tablet and giving a cat a wash?

I have 3 cats.

Bentley who is 6, a black and brown long haired domestic, rescued, who spends most his time at the neighbours.

I have a naughty torty who is 7, named Mia who was my cousins cat. She gets called Tort or Tortalina mostly.

Then I have Polly, the Queen who is nearly 17. She was my sisters cat and had her 10 years. A black and white puddy tat that does silent miaows as well as loud ones.

Love them. Recently lost 3 though

Ragdolls are quite expensive to buy aren't they?

A girl I know used to rave about wanting one because they just flop when you pick them up apparently

They do, that's why they are called rag doll. They are beautiful looking creatures...perfect companions."

In agreement on that one, they look gorgeous

I'm curious... what do you all do with your pets when you go on holiday?

I was away in August and took my cat round to a friend's house. We thought we were being clever, she has a cat too and we figured if they got on, it would be a perfect solution.

It was an epic fail. In the end my friend brought her home and just popped in to feed her and hang out for a while every day.

Now I'm off down south in October and I'm trying to decide what to do. There's a posh cat hotel nearby (@£14/day) or there's a cat sitting person (I've never met them) who comes into your house (@£7/day).

I'm not so bothered about the dosh side of things but she seems much more comfortable at home than somewhere else but to give a complete stranger keys to my flat fills me with apprehension.

Another friend (with no pets) has also offered to have her while I'm away too. Now I'm undecided... I hate stressing her out.

Mine stay at home, and my mum or one of my friends will pop round every day to feed them and give them a bit of a cuddle. This works best as they're pretty independent anyway and can go out when they want, and it's less stressful than the upheaval of going to a cattery (for me, as well as them!)

I've given up reading my book and reverted to browsing on here since I can do that one-handed. Mainly because my elderly tabbyshell grumblepuss keeps putting her paw on the book so I can't read it. My lap is apparently hers and hers alone.

Yeah I think this is the way forward when it's only for a few days. I think if I was going for longer I'll think about the cattery. She's an indoor kitty and likes her own space. I figure she's better off just missing me than being in a strange place.

Mine gets stressed being taken away from her comfy place at home so I get friends to pop in, feed her and say hello. She sulks for an hour or two when I get back just to show me but then gives up and forgives me because she likes other people but they're just not me.

I've not had any sulking. She's always pleased to see me. I sometimes get a look of disapproval when I get in late though... she pokes her brush off the table like I'm some sort of slave. And of course I oblige.

One of mine does that when I try to read the paper. He'll sit on the paper, on my lap.

He's also destroyed a dressing gown padding on it.

I put my cat into a cattery (its a womans house with pens in her garden), my friend has used her so I knew it would be fine. Our cat rules our roost and me and is a bolshy thing but she was very glad to see us back from our holiday and to get home. Is there anyone like this in your area or does anyone you know, know of someone they have used.

tigerlily loves wotsits the others don't, she's the only one not fussed by proper cat treats but will eat other stuff.

They all absolutley love porkscratchings, I open a bag for them tip them on the floor and there is never a crumb left

Used to share a house with a couple of Colourpoint Persians. Beautiful, independant wee souls, though a friend did refer to them as pampered powder poofs, cause they were spoilt rotten.

Unfortunately, the property I now live in doesn't permit pets, otherwise I would be off to find a couple of fury people.

We went to the vet last Monday and there was a proper fight to get her into the carrier I have. It's really too small for her and she was properly stressed by the end of it.

So I decided it was time to buy a proper carrier. It arrived today. It's massive but folds flat for storage. I brought it home and built it and left it in the living room with the flap open and now she won't come out of it! She's dragged her toys in there too!
