Started this maybe a week ago, can't tell you how great I feel! No meat, dairy or eggs. Enjoying experimenting with fruits and vegetables I've never tried, stir frys and vegetable curry's yum! So much energy.
Anyone else follow this lifestyle if so, any recipes or must have foods? Needing inspiration for tea! |

I'm vegaterian, I don't eat dairy but I do eat proper free range farm eggs so can't say in vegan, my daughter is vegan though and cooks all her food from scratch, she's actually a very good cook, I have no idea where she gets not from, she makes all her sauces from scratch, never uses Jared stuff because she says you can't trust what's in it
You can tatse the difference I think she just googled most of her stuff |

These days I'm fishetarian. Since I switched out meats, I've never felt better.
In fact now, the smell of bacon cooking (long said by some to be vegetarianism's kryptonite), actually makes me feel queasy! |

That's exactly where I'm at, have been vegetarian for a while but recently switched to vegan and ditched dairy also. Google has been the holy grail! Do you miss meat? It's been relatively easy however social gatherings not so much but everyday I have a constant boost of energy feel amazing! I'm not going to lie I'M MISSING CHEESE like a limb! |

There's a lot to be said for diet isn't there! The benefits of stuffing our mouths with salad leaves and plant vegetables is Un real, if I could give everyone this feeling I'm sure they'd drop meat and dairy within a heart beat (OH HELL NAW, THIS GUY'S GOING TO START PREACHING!) I remember when I was just like you. . Lol.. |

Have you tried vegan cheese? Violife is my favourate i wouldnt try the shops own brands they seem to be rubbery, the violife one melts well too for cooking etc |

Hmmm have considered it but I only shop in places like sainsbury's or asda and never seen the cheese replacements? I'm looking for a product called daiya? Fancy cheese broccoli for tea! Or cheese and tomato with carrot mash mmmmm! |

This has always troubled me. Vegan ism and vegetarianism seem fine however giving something up to substitute it with a very highly processed alternative seems misguided. If you want to give up dairy products then go for it, many people find great benefits in doing so, however eating food which has to be researched in a lab can never be good. |

You can buy violife from tesco I've never seen it in any other supermarket, holland and Barrett sell it though

That's a good point I've been on the picket fence with this, I've avoided things like tofu because of this however it would be nice to mix it up a bit, gonna jump in the car in a min and find some cheese replacement violife or something which was mentioned earlier |

I don't think vegan or vegetarian food is any worse for you than any processed food
you can eat fresh or processed wether you eat meat or not the choice is yours |

The vegetarian society have loads of recipes on their website & facebook - made a mushroom and ale pie and various risottos. MrB makes an a amazing five bean chilli.
On a rude note - we'd both already been veggie when we met ( and with partners who weren't) and we both think it makes oral much nicer |

I've been a veggie on / off for the last 20 years or so. I eat fish, dairy products & since having my daughter the odd piece of chicken when I get a craving for it, which is pretty rare.
I dont label myself but I find others do, for example if I'm at a catered event I'll aways say I'm veggie because then I know I'll be able to eat something. I can guarantee someone will say yeah right you're a veggie who eats fish.....err no im a person just asking for the veggie option... |

Tofu is not an attempt to make something like meat, in fact it's only similarity is the fact that it's high in protein.
My fave is either deep fried tofu (it goes a very odd spongy texture that I love) or braised tofu which is very handy cos it comes in tins and has some flavourings already so you can just throw it onto a stir fry etc.
Silken tofu is great for making puddings and desserts.
I'm neither vegan or veggie but I do enjoy a wide variety of foods and try not to eat too much meat. |

I just gave up eating full stop
Seriously, six months into my diet and I decided I didn't want food anymore, so I've lived on soup, slimfast, dry crackers for 18 months, occasionally I will have the odd packet of quavers and my treat once in a blue moon is a big fat milkshake.
But I survive on very few calories I do take supplements.
I feel cleansed and in control that's a lovely feeling

Taifun tofu is great they do various flavours, smoked, basil etc the olive on is to die for I love it, nice in a saunce with pasta |

Have been a vegan since university. That is over thirty years. Its a real challenge to cook meat. When I got together with Mr I said, come round for a meal, nut had no idea how to cook met 'proper'. My kids eat meat but I dont prepare from scratch as I find touching bloody flesh makes me heave. Anyway, all is well as my middle one has done GCSE food tech, so that helps as the vegan way of eating is so different. I tend to try dishes from many different cultures. Also look out for cheap soya milk ... aldi and lidl and cheap tofu from Chinese supermarkets, never get from the Tesco and ASDA of this world. I'd look on the wen for ideas too ... |

Just make sure you're getting enough iron! My best mate became really ill after going vegan coz she wasn't getting nearly enough.
I couldn't do it, with my allergies if I chose not to eat things I'd probably starve. |

My point was on vegan cheese and meat replacements. Whilst they are tasty there is an issue that they are very processed.
Chresearch particularly I am suspicious of.
Tofu and bean curds are different I think. They have been made for centuries and are not trying to be meat they are just their own thing. |

I never mad a problem with iron in the thirty or so years, and even breast fed three children ... to statements like, how can you produce milk if you don't drink it? You do need to check what you are eating, though, include pulses, spinach, etc .. and mix beans and rice to get proteins. Its not difficult in the least and you can also go the junk food vegan way, which is me, but I do it for ethical reasons and not into the processed versus not processed debate. Honestly, out if anything its habit for me now... but doubt my body could cope with an input of meat ... except the less obvious kind. |

Currently eating broccoli and carrot mash with sweetcorn, peas and leek! Delish! I'm eating more than I've ever ate and the few odd pounds are melting away! Def right lifestyle for me this vegan thing! Would not want meat in the future or now to be honest and dairy has been relatively easy, just drink black tea! |

A friend of mind went from veggie to vegan a few months ago as a lifestyle reason, physical difference was noticeable after a few weeks and that brought a new found confidence but some vitamin supplements I think have had to be used on account of not being able to get that from food.
Think you can get vegan shoes now which can is quite impressive, wouldn't recommend eating those though (I'll get my coat!) |
