I have noticed a lot of people posting in the forums, basically just to prove how smart they are, you know the ones, they take a post literally just to make out they know more than everyone else.
Well clever cockers, here is your chance, tell everyone how clever you are, don't be shy, you might get someone to LOOK AT YOU, after all that's what you want isn't it

I'm a bit dim really - filled up car with petrol and walked around a big Next store today with my bra and boobs hanging out of my blouse as I hadn't dressed myself properly - or the button popped open, I'll never know. |

Some people actually enjoy talking about intelligent stuff, and even enjoy educating others.
There are right and wrong ways to do this though. Being opinionated is the wrong way.
Dunno why your bothered, i've kind of given up on any chance of intelligent discussion on here really. I don't care, not in a learning mood anyway. |

Surely the point of profiles and being on a site like this is for people to look.
I'm not very clever, but feel free to look anyway.
I tend to either laugh or ignore the know it all, been there done it better type person both online and in real life. |

If it's a serious thread about something I am passionate about I will get passionate.
As to being clever then I am on some things and really not on others. We all have some knowledge about something and within that there may well be something at which you shine.

I have academic qualifications coming out of my ears, but little common sense ... I have a high IQ but very few skills that get me through the day, I am not in the slightest bit practical. I am passionate about what I do and what believe .... dont have to use fancy words or big language to show you are clever, as someone else said, there are lots of different definitions. I admire people who know which button to press to get a ticket at the car lark, because I dont ... this is not the forum I use to show off my academic skills, but I do find myself asking people to explain more by maybe querying their words, just something I have been trained to do, as the word is powerful ..... |

Booksmart about some things. Clueless about others. Passionate about some stuff, some of which I wish I knew more about. It's a good old mix on the forums of thinkers and the opinionated. No need for any mic dropping either; I wince when I see people do that. |

"People think I'm thick and that I don't know much. I'm actually quite clever. Sorta.
Why would they think that?

Because if I'm trying to be clever then I end up looking like an idiot, and if I don't try to be clever then I usually end up not making any sense |

"I'm clever than I give myself credit for if that makes sense? "
My problem is, I was a rebel at age 16 and the thought of further education was a no no for me!
Now I lack the confidence in my work because I don't have the qualifications to back me up, though I know I can always keep up with the qualified accountants so I need to think more of myself academically wise |

Wouldn't say I'm clever. I hardly ever went to school but still managed to pass all my exams. I have the ability to remember stupid things that no one else remembers which makes me pretty good to have on a pub quiz team. |

It also makes a horrible noise.
I have recently come to realise I was as clever as I will be ever be at 15. It's all been downhill since then.

"Nobody likes a clever clogs but intelligence is sexy. (At least in my eyes)

Intelligence isn't necessarily sexy.
For example: I am confident in my ability to compose a sentence. However, I have been told that I "read" like the David Mitchell character from "Peep Show".... |

See, I love words and language of all sorts. It's a passion. I'm not a linguist or anything though and have never studied it; I just love hearing old and obscure words and have a good memory for them. I never use them to try and be clever; I just genuinely enjoy using them. |

I've had messages that I'm trying to be clever using long words. I don't understand the logic of limiting the words we have to just a few hundred.
A friend used the word lacuna, naked at Kestrels, and I'll admit it made me a little moist. It was the fact that he uses all the language available to him.

For me its just a question of whether you're a snob or not. Some people would never think that a bunch of depraved perverts would be capable of talking about complex shit like economics or philosophy... so even just turning up here and ranting about this crap shows a certain amount of open-mindedness. I don't think there are that many people on the more serious threads who genuinely think they're gonna get laid for what they say.. it's more like a good old argy bargy down the pub imo. I like the mix on here and I'm always open to hearing anyone's perspective on anything, educated to the hilt or raised on the street... everyone is capable of conjuring up pearls of wisdom, everyone's perspective on life is unique. That's my very serious up my own arse trying to be too clever for my own fucking boots reply |

What is clever ??
Does anyone know what it is ??
Is it clever inventing a nuclear bomb ??
So basicly..we're all clever in our way.

We are thick as shit but this is an Internet forum. A place where you can write any old bollocks and put the keyboard away thinking you are the brain of Britain and that you have shown them.
A keyboard is both a shield and a crucible. |

People are clever in so many different ways. I only got a 2:2 in my degree, but a senior lecturer writing a book wanted me to help with a chapter because I approached problems in a different way. I couldn't answer stock answers to pass exams as well as other people though. Inventiveness and original thought is where my brain works best. |

If you know something troubles you, it's wise to put attention elsewhere- possibly that's the intelligent thing we've evolved to do?
Like most people I've a range of skills that make me about average. Not so smart with some things, but I'm ok with that.
Intelligence isn't something that I view as measurable yet though. IQ testing is all flawed and distorted from full reality. |

I used to have a high IQ, but I don't think that makes me clever. I'm studying at the moment but feel as if I'm fumbling my way through my qualification rather than understanding it.
I can't retain information, or use big words, and I lack basic understanding of the world around me
Basically I'm just thick! |

I'm not clever. Academically I'm poor, I messed around at school scraped 5 GCSE's. Failed college. Failed an NVQ and never had the confidence to begin a university course with a foundation year due to never been able to be confined to a classroom. I have common sense most of the time and am able to explain my opinions and have good knowledge on things that I like. I know my job inside out too. So I'm not doing too bad :p |

I could have written this! I lack common sense. Always top up my oyster in a shop as I can't work the ticket machine. My assistant had to explain how to get my train ticket from the email the travel agent sent.

The one thing I have never posted, ever, since my time immortal on here, are the details of my qualifications and achievements.
I'm not looking to impress anyone on here.
There is a lot of boasting that occurs, ie, your favourite book (god forbid it's chick lit) to the TV programmes you watch (look at the amount of sarcasm that Shag puts up with when he mentions Big Brother).
It's fairly obvious to all from the way we write. There really is no need to state 'i have qualifications coming out of my ears', that's all a bit crass really.
I'll admit that things bother me, the squirting threads I have to hold back on. The statements that declare 'its not urine', knowledge that's clearly been gained from Ben Dover rather than actual medical fact.
I write how I speak, I can't change that, but I don't bother correcting any errors because I don't feel it's important, these forums are a time to relax the brain not impress strangers with pseudo intellect |

I write how I speak, I can't change that, but I don't bother correcting any errors because I don't feel it's important, these forums are a time to relax the brain not impress strangers with pseudo intellect "
some threads on here make me feel so dumb! I don't even understand the debate, never mind be able to contribute to it!
I read rubbish books and watch rubbish TV, because it's my way to unwind, I don't get joy from doing intellectual stuff! |

Intelligence is not an aggregation of knowledge although knowledge has a part in it. Neither is it something entirely genetic, ie. inherited from our parents.
It is not something we solely acquire through formal teaching. And it is not one specific and clearly defined category of capability like "maths" or "languages".
The definition of intelligence has changed over the years and it is now recognised that there are several more "forms" of intelligence including "emotional" and "musical" intellgience to name but a couple.
Just referring to emotional intelligence alone ... there are people with very little formal education, possibly limited vocabulary and maybe not great at Maths....and yet they are very successful in life because they are able to read other people's emotions and empathise.
Just a thought? |

I'm more Fool than clever. I like language and word play but mainly for amusement. I may post a serious post every so often. However I tend to post nonsense most of the time, get things wrong some of the time and rarely post anything serious or of value to others |

"I have noticed a lot of people posting in the forums, basically just to prove how smart they are, you know the ones, they take a post literally just to make out they know more than everyone else.
Well clever cockers, here is your chance, tell everyone how clever you are, don't be shy, you might get someone to LOOK AT YOU, after all that's what you want isn't it
*drops mic, and walks away*" .
That's a very interesting observation!
I think it would depend on which fence your standing on!, what's intellectual to you might not be to me and what's intellectual to me might not be to Stephen hawking.(that statement is not a rank of intelligence, more curiosity)
I think it's one of those questions where there is no right or wrong answer, what does appear to annoy people is not subjects perse but how we perceive somebody else's wisdom (opinions), apparently it's OK if you've learned your wisdom from a book in a degree but if you read your wisdom on a free book on the internet (wikipedia) your a cunt with a keyboard!.
We've all had different lives and those lives shape our opinions to a certain degree but I wouldn't base my opinions on my life experiences.
I've personally been wrong about loads of things in my life and that surely makes you a better person, a man who never made any mistakes never made anything!.
Anyhoo I'm off to read my book on thorium liquid salt nuclear reactors

"I'm as clever as Google allows me to be.
I think that is probably more accurately "as clever as I need to be find the specific thing I want from Google when I need it.""
The trick with Google is interpreting the information to make it look like you knew it all along... |

"Why post in a forum if it's stuff you don't know about ?
Providing opinions and experiences is fine and if someone has knowledge I'm happy to listen? " |

I prefer ' I'm clever enough to search with Google and select , copy and paste the text which makes me appear knowledgable for the moment.' |

I only need to copy the question and paste it onto Google search. As long as no one asks me to explain my answer I'm safe. |

"A wise man was once told that he was the cleverest person alive.
He laughed and said, "All I know is how little I really know."
"
Was he in fact Henry's Cat?
'He knows everything about nothing, and not too much about that...' |

I think it's so that I will be punished for not writing them correctly and so that I get my "oo" and my "cheh" mixed up.

There's different types of intelligence.
Some people are academically intelligent and some emotionally intelligence.
There are probably others but these are the ones that matter to me so it depends on what you consider important. |

"I'm a bit dim really - filled up car with petrol and walked around a big Next store today with my bra and boobs hanging out of my blouse as I hadn't dressed myself properly - or the button popped open, I'll never know."
Do you make a habit of this and more importantly which next store |
