"Gatlin"
Ah him. In a way it's sad that one misdemeanor tars him for life. People will never forgive or forget things like that in professional athletics. As far as I k ow he is clean now and has been passed ok to compete again at international level. |

He has been banned twice for drugs although the first time was possibly an error more than cheating.
I do feel sorry for Gatlin he has become the focal point of hatred in athletics, it's not just him ffs! He's just a daft lad that's made mistakes.
However, I'm so glad Bolt has thrashed him twice! |

"In his case it wasn't one misdemeanour. He was caught twice
Yes one ban fair enough give them a second chance but as Gatlin cheated twice I think he should be banned for life. "
The first time was the ADD drug he was taking (and had for 10 years) contained a newly banned substance. The second time was out and out cheating. |

"What channel is showing this?
BBC. A bit obscure, but you should be able to find it somewhere on Freeview"
Thanks. Pretty sure I looked earlier in the week but couldn't see. Any big races/events left? |

Mo Farrah still to run in his final, then the 4x400 relay and the 4x100 relays which I always enjoy. |

"The idea that Bolt and the rest of the elite sprinters do not use PEDs is naive the extreme."
Yes I struggle with the concept that he can be clean and yet so convincingly beat known dopers. The fact that his national federation don't do out of competition testing only adds to that suspicion.

re: gatlin and bolt
there was a brilliant discussion in the coverage on the bbc today about the whole saga and i would encourage everyone to watch it....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/athletics/34075035
because it isn't just gatlin vs bolt.... it has kinda morphed into gatlin vs the british media... where gatline wont now talk to the bbc or any of the british press at all, he took offence to some of the things steve cram has said.... uk promoters here won't book him for either of the two big diamond league meeting here, he was booed during the olympics..... and in two years time the next world champs is here at the olympic stadium
the best contibution came from michael johnson... i love the way he does analysis |

he was originally... but because the first offence was for the drug he was using to control his adhd for 10 years and they changed the ingredients his 2nd was treated as if it was his 1st...
so from life... to 8years... then down to 4.... and then down to 2 on appeal |

Some people are just born with superior natural talent and better genes, which is why Bolt beats known dopers like Gatlin, Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell in the past too. Bolt is not unique, Phelps beat all his competition convincingly in the swimming events and never got labelled as a drugs cheat. |

phelps got popped for marijuana use, and got a 6 month ban from swimming after his 2 DUI..... so phelps isn't as much of a role model as you'd like to believe |

Seems Bolt is slowing down. How on earth did that Segway catch up with him!
Love the way he handed it and didn't roll over like he'd been shot (like some footballers) and his post comments just showed great personality!
What a character! Top bloke! |

I think it's harsh to imply Bolt isn't clean because he beats cheats. It's fairly well documented that he has an astonishingly high percentage of fast twitch and hyper-fast twitch muscle fibres. Luck of genetics and biology followed by a vast amount of hard work.
As for the idea of " he's served his time" about Gatlin sorry but he cheated, the benefits of that cheating allowed him to train harder, longer and better the benefits of that must still be there so for me life ban. It won't ever stop if they keep getting away with it.
Feel sorry for the athletes that make a mistake with supplements etc but they know the rules. |

If Bolt already knows he can beat them clean, fair and square why would he want to take any performance enhancing drugs in the first place. |

Two misdemeanours. He was caught cheating twice.
That is not someone who should be competing as he has proven that he has no regard for fair competition. |

It's already been established that one of those was as a result of a change of ingredients in his medication which is not really his fault.
My cousin was a great swimmer. Could have been picked for the national team however something in the eye drops was prescribed was banned by the governing body and that ended his swimming career. He wasn't taking them to improve his performance. He was taking them so he could see!! |

Add that to the injuries he suffers just before most major competitions.... And how many of his compatriots have been caught doping. I don't think there are many innocent athletes.

I'd bet my house that Bolt isn't as clean as he claims. Running bad all season then magically winning? Hmmmm very suspicious. Don't get me wrong anyone who takes PED'S still needs to work their ass off but just be open about it no one would really care |

Is it not the same as any other sportsman or team who improve for the big events?
Andy Murray regularly beats Djokovic and Federer in small competitions but when it comes to majors he rarely does. Does that mean that those two guys are doping to win major tennis tournaments? Or does it mean that their training regime is set up to ensure they peak for the big matches? |

Inych tge same qay as Chris Froome is paying the price of over 2 decades of dopers winning the tour de France questions and cynicism is inevitable towards Bolt. The spirt only has itself to blame |

That's not exactly true. He doesn't. In fact up til their last match a few days ago, Murray hadn't beaten Novak since 2013...a run of 8 matches in tournaments big and small.
Novak himself was known to give up during matches early in his career - til he gave up gluten.
Now he regularly outlasts the Nadal machine thing. |
