One of the more memorable photographs to emerge from 9/11 is the 'dust lady' who was captured coming out of one of the buildings covered in dust and debris.
It has been reported this morning that she has sadly passed away from stomach cancer, aged 42.
Whilst people being diagnosed from cancer is a frightfully everyday occurrence, the statistics to emerge in the next few years could prove alarming, with more and more survivors of the attacks being diagnosed with cancer.
The article talks about two firefighters from the same engine, both having cancer and both dying on the same day. Very sad.
Statistically yes, in a large population of people, disease will still happen. Regardless of predisposed qualities. But the aftermath of toxic gas, fumes and debris, had to have some effect on survivors health in years to come.
Just another sad 9/11 legacy.
