why? example... someone on my list has gone on holiday and seems to have spent most of her time posting pics and reporting on what they are all doing on holiday? sad IMO
why do people think they have to let everyone know all the details on their lives |

But if you're reading, watching, and discussing her, surely that's exactly what Facebook want? |

I understand the odd smug pic or anecdote but most of them are devoid of personality or having a life, thus every inane detail gets posted. Same people who go to live music gigs and film the whole thing on their phone.
I find myself unfriending or hiding these people. I call them arseholes. |

Personally as much as I dont announce what I do, where I go or what tribulations I may have. I am finding myself more and more tied to social media than I used to be.
I do see your though point OP - that people do post either mundane or utterly personal details about ever part of their lives for the world to see.
It is something I try to steer clear of myself, and use it for what it is, a catch up, a nosey or some form or relaxation |

I just unfollow the whingers... then I don't need to see any of the shite. I quite like to see my friends having fun on holiday though. I guess when you're lying around by the pool there's time to add photos. I'd far rather see happy stuff than the miserable crap! |

Facebook gets on my (male) tits, I unfriended all friends and family and my profile is only people from a charity I volunteer for (as I run the fanpage). I figure people who care about me will keep in touch in person or in phone.
Now nobody keeps in touch lol.
Someone on my page got married about 6 months ago and there's still daily updates about it to this day (literally). |

Urgh this.. Daily countdown til they get married, then wow I can't believe we've been married a week/month/2 months/3 months..
Yes we get it, you got married! |

It's one of the many reasons I rarely use Facebook these days, I can't be doing with some of the crass on there.
Couple having a love in using their statuses - tell each other!!
People saying how much they love their kids - tell your kids!!
The Jeremy Kyle brigade who have their arguments and disputes on there - enough said

Exactly lol. I hardly know the lass, she just volunteers for the charity now and then so I need to keep in touch with her but Jesus wept! For the love of god love, you got married, get over it.
Worst thing is, today, yes today, she announced she got pregnant. So the next 10 years are booked up then |

You can be a friend of someone on Facebook without following every post of theirs. I unfollow everyone and just use it for the games, but can check on someone's profile if I want to see what has been going on ... |

I disagree with you about holiday pics etc but completely agree about this. The kids are having their lives plastered all over the Web without their permission. Im talking generally about what I see not your friends kids clearly. But that's how I see it. |

Facebook suits many and I'm told helps lonely people feel connected.
I enjoy the more adult nature of Fab. I'd rather have a few good Fab friends than the hundreds some have on Facebook
Only comment is that I don't understand why such excellent sites are run from the other side of the pond - can't we have a UK hosted social site? |

I hardly ever look at my Facebook feed. I have a few photographer friends and very talented friends who post their creations. It's a good way of sharing. I don't like seeing things from friends of friends,I don't think Facebook should show us things from people we aren't friends with. |

my hobby is photography, so I am in a few groups, not so much for critique, but just to share what I do with others, see what they do for inspiration, where they go, and I have made some friends here n there. Some in real life, some online. I only have bout 100 friends. I do know others who have over 1000. I have one who is a real attention seeker, types every post she puts up IN FULL CAPS |

I have unfollowed a few people in the last few months. Mostly friends who are on slimming world and reporting on weight loss or not as is the case. I used to wind my x up by posting cute pics of my dog as I ended up with her after our split but now I don't bother with it that much. All I get now off mates is "did you see ....... On Facebook?" |

I read lately that if you post pics whilst on holiday and you then proceed to get burgled, that your home insurance might be invalidated. Apparently its considered advertising your absence.
I also don't like photos ad nauseum. My ex sister in law literally posts 20 pics a day of my niece |

Everyone is a narcissist to a degree, Facebook relies on that fact. I only use it to post artwork and crap jokes. It breaks up the infinite stream of gym check-ins, how many 'sleeps' people have till their next holiday/wedding/festival, and photos of babies that couldn't care less. That said, I'm crap with remembering birthdays, so there is that! |

I like facebook, for me its a way of keeping in contact with people I don't see on a daily basis.
I don't live my life out on there (or on any other social media pages) but I do post a few holiday pics & check in at various places.
I unfollow anyone who plays the games & send invites as it clogs up the news feed ~ otherwise I really don't care how people use it. |

"im thinking of unfriending her as I don't like it "
Don't unfriend, just hide her. I do it all the time but with people that moan. Like the ones who moan about their deadbeat ex's who don't see their kids, but the woman knew he was deadbeat before she got caught with his child. And know all she does is slag him off.
Another one is a 17 yr old boy ( friend of the family)....he's so depressive! I can't stand it! He makes me want to gorge my eyes out.....

I tend to think it's more of Bragbook, rather than Facebook.
I even have one women on my friends list who goes out shopping weekly and then comes back and post pictures of the number of bags she has bought(not just randomly thrown down either) you can tell she has taken some time to position them carefully so each and every designer name can be seen on each bag.
For me it's just about people wanting to show off(but then maybe I'm just turning into a miserable old sod ) |

Whilst you're moaning about it on a swingers site forum and saying you think it's sad.

My name is Andy and I used to be addicted to the face book
All: "Hi Andy"
I used to login every 5 minutes because it was joke after joke after d*unken-mess photo. Those were the days. I quit when it got overrun by baby phones and photos of dinners. I been clean for 2 years and 3 months now. I can honesly say I don't miss it at all and you won't either if you follow the 12 steps.
All: "thanks for sharing Andy"

It's like going to a concert or somewhere and just recording it on camphones or video recorders - it's dissociated from the potentials of real life.
For some now their lives are primarily introspective, where the internet is an enlargement of their warped minds. The rest of us are accessories to them. |

I'm a newbie to facebook, I started when we where planning our 50th reunion.
The friends I have are rlf.
I love seeing their holiday pictures, grandchildren pics, at the moment its been different pics of how all those that where 50 this year spent their birthdays.
Never thought I'd enjoy it, but I enjoy the way I use it it.
I've become rlf with my sons g/fs family and its good to keep in touch with them as they live away.

I use it to keep in touch with far flung family & friends. Since becoming a single parent it's even harder to meet up with them.
Also, I'm still in touch with a lot of the ex's family & friends on FB as it's an easy way for us to keep in contact without awkward meetings!!
The boys are off to Turkey with their dad tomorrow & taking my camera so the pics will be uploaded on their return. If people don't want to see they can just unfollow me |

Funniest bit about this thread is that the OP said she has already unfollowed whoever it was so no pics or updates appear in her feed so the only way to see them was to go on Her page to look.. And then still moan about it!
I unfollowed someone I know coz her constant moaning was doing my head in. She's none the wiser and I don't have to see it! Problem solved. |

I do use Facebook and I upload holiday pics etc but I don't post every day. I mostly use it to play games. It is useful for keeping in touch with friends or ex work colleagues you don't see very often.
I'm not keen on the silly videos that people share and some content I've blocked.
The holiday pics are the most interesting for me.

It's the attention seeking status posts that I find saddest. Things like " oh god could things get any worse!!" Or " I'm having such a terrible day" all designed so people will respond with " oh what's up Hun, hope your ok ring me" etc etc
Why post shite asking for attention just ring your friends ffs.
FB is great for having a bit of fun and keeping in touch but posting every aspect of your whole life is a bit sad |

"I think it is funny people use the forum and statuses on this site in a similar way, but don't realise. Each to their own "
Loads of people post about day to day life on here...guess it's just fb with a twist. |

If it isn't on Facebook it never happened. At least I'm guessing that's the mentality. It's like those Japanese children that get paid by their parents to travel the world to see all the sights... with one important proviso that they show proof that they have been there. That's why they all swarm off to these landmarks and get photos of themselves standing in front of it. If the photo didn't exist they might as werll never have been there... Facebook is the same imo
Its all social totemism, one-upmanship, and the pretence that life is all wonderful and rosy, when the mere fact that they're on Facebook at all is ample evidence that their lives are as dull as shit and they're trying desperately to con themselves that it isn't by talking incessantly about all the useless shit they imagine other people might be interested in. Its like a social club for boring people |

"Or a social club for antisocial people! "
Well considering my mates finally convinced me to join it about 4 years ago but I have only logged onto it about 4 times, posted nothing, and replied to only one comment... heck I even delete Facebook's notification emails as spam... I'd say that's about right from me
My general rule is... if you can't be bothered to email me about it then it can't be that important or interesting... and if Facebook can't be bothered to tell me what my mates posted in the email it sends me then why should I bother logging onto it? I'm afraid the whole "your friend just said something" thing does absolutely nothing for me... I'm sure all of my friends are saying things all the time. If they want me they know where I am |
