This may be one for a cuppa... up front warning that I may indeed waffle.

I'd never used an online forum before I found my first swinging site. I was fannying around in the ads in Gumtree and saw an advert for a swinging site. Being a naturally inquisitive sort, I poked my nose in. It was on the 19th August 2005 and within a month I had clocked up 1000 posts. Gobshite they called me. I loved it.

Suddenly I'd uncovered a whole pile of people who were just like me. Well, I say they were just like me, I'm not sure they'd agree with that cause I'm a bit odd

but let's just say they were on my wavelength.

That was liberating and refreshing and I knew pretty quickly that I'd made some lifelong friends. It's had its ups and downs of course, as every area of life tends to. Some people have come (quite literally) and gone, my swinging life has merged into my vanilla life and I genuinely wouldn't have it any other way. I've been to weddings, births and holidays and sadly a couple of funerals but I've made some great friends along the way. All because I posted on an online forum.

Whilst I'd love to embrace the whole 'look at me' nature of this thread, that's not my point. I'll get to it... in a minute.

These days I come and go in terms of the forums and I'd guess my departure won't be long in coming cause there are a million other things I should be doing instead of wasting time here

but I'm curious as to what your first experience of the forums was like.

I don't want your first swinging experience, I want to know what you thought when you turned up here on the forums as a newbie. Did you pitch up with a whinge and then find that we're quite a nice bunch so stuck around? Did you join in the games and get to know people? Did you get jumped all over for a posting fuck up about a disastrous meet?

Humour me... I'm curious

I was on another site before this one and loved the forums there, sadly I joined just as the site started to get quieter and missed it;s glory days but it was a fantastic forum. When I joined this site I thought the forum was awful, it was purile, lacked depth and appeared to be dominated by a clique of a few women (don't believe me? search the archives) and barely posted on the forums for years.

I'm not sure when it changed, I started posting regularly I guess 4 or 5 years ago and I love them now. There is a huge contrast in the posters and they are well moderated making for interesting reading

I started with a query about local clubs and got some feisty responses. Then I was bored one evening and went in the lounge and joined in a couple of threads and that was it. Once I joined a 'Show yourself' Face Pic thread and chatted to a few lovely people I was hooked. I got a good roasting on my first OP thread in the Lounge and I guess I was initiated

Wow first time in the forums was a little scary, it seemed that everyone knew everyone, but I just kept joining in!

I've laughed nearly to the point of doing a little wee in my knickers, I made this face

quite a few times as couldn't quite believe some of the stuff I was reading!

The one forum post that will forever stuck in my mind is the toilet roll thread

I was directed to the site by someone I met on a different online forum. That forum was a great laugh and I met and still talk to some from there. I was using fab a while before having a nose at the forums,it was a long time ago. My first impression was that a couple of posters stood out,not all for good reasons. I got the impression that some people should get out more and have some mad sex now and then. I still think that. I did get a recipe for a lovely sponge cake.

I got told i shouldn't be on the site and shouldn't be swinging. Just because i asked advice on a meet i'd had where i suspected the guy had removed the condom when i wasn't looking and i wanted advise on how to keep myself safe from any other tricks like that. I also got advise too.

I ignored the crap 'advice' of leaving the site as you can see.

That's what I remember most fondly... laughing out loud when I was home alone until the wee small hours. The first page went so fast I could barely keep up and the nature of the place was predominantly friendly.

I guess I'm having a big old trip down memory lane after ten years.

I'd been using internet forums for years so I purposely looked for the forums on here.

Didn't know anyone and I don't think I got much of a reply to my introduction thread. Can't remember much about the early responses I got but I can't remember being ripped to much to pieces, think I just started posting on everything and my name started to get noticed.

I don't remember (boring answer) but I've always been good at writing things and I think I leapt right in and started commenting, making stupid jokes and having a laugh. I didn't know a lot of the jargon though but you soon pick it up.

I didn't use the forum for ages. Spent a couple of months on the site. Got nowhere so looked around for others. Had a meet off one of them. Then that went quiet. Got chatting to a couple for ages on yet another site. Was looking very good. Then they left site! So thought feck it I'll try fab again. Been back here since. Was bored one night and had a look at the forums. I just viewed for a little bit then started posting. I kind of take the attitude of say what I mean. I'll happily say what's on my mind and if people want to take me to task let them. Have had people have personal digs at me and my favourite one where they put words in my mouth. Gotta love that. Bring it on.

Mine was just over 2 years ago. I made a post about my neighbours complaining about my shenanigans and I just couldn't understand what their problem was.....

I was ripped to shreds on the forum. Left Fab quite soon after.

But one thing is for sure, I now understand my neighbours problem and am quite embarrassed to think I thought otherwise...

I think the support aspect is great too. I'm not big on the tea and sympathy threads but if someone genuinely needs help or advice it's great to have somewhere to go and ask people who have been there and done that.

Although we used to get our arses kicked for not using the search button before posting. In hindsight I think that's maybe not a bad rule to have.

I got hooked pretty quick.

Never really had a problem or received much negativity even as a new poster and just got stuck in. The amount of good people far outweighed the bad, and the bad stood out like a sore thumb.

I still enjoy dipping in and out but I used to spend hours laughing on here. Had the forums not of existed I wouldn't have bothered signing up again (and again).

Got to agree. The bad do stick out like a sore thumb. Its laughable sometimes.

Not entirely sure to be honest but think it was when i was off work waiting for an operation and the social interaction was beneficial, certainly this was my first time using a forum and it was after we had been on the site a little while..

When I came here, I barely noticed the forums because that wasn't really why I was here, but I got nosey and so I began to look......

Was the first time i've ever had anyone take a condom off sneakily like that so was a bit worried about it.

We used to use the chat rooms a lot, they can be lots of fun and they're a lot faster moving....

When I first came in here I thought, god this is bloody slow!

I didn't find it cliquey at first, that came later. It seemed interesting and good fun, after a while I thought a lot of posters are from the same general area and all know eachother.

I do think it can be cliquey at times but mostly it's good fun, from superficial to philoshophical though it's always entertaining!

We've made some good online friends here and even Mr is joining in now!

When I first joined I just used to use the chat rooms. I would read the first thread in each forum though and thought oh that's pretty dull. Then one day in 2010 I had a question about veris, so thought I would give the forum a bash - I got fookin slaughtered

Anyhow, not one to give in easily, I stuck with it, had a bromance and a forum wedding with a sheep shagger, introduced my friend Colin the cock who went on a fab tour of the country and popped up on avatars all over the forum. Did ridiculous photo requests and generally just had a laugh. Never been into the serious or debating threads, hence I only join in these days when I can see a bit of banter going on.

I used another site for a few years before I joined here. The forums on the other site were really good, everybody seemed more relaxed about things and it was fun to get involved.

Then I joined here, where I have often found too many people jumps down other people's throats too quickly, statements like 'it's there preference they can do what they like' kind of things and some people always look for the negative in a thread rather than simply answer what the op has asked. I used to post a lot in here, but now it's very limited. Shame really because they could be a lot of fun.... Although person above, fuck snog avoid threads are wayyyy too frequent.

Banter! That's exactly it. I don't believe in cliques. There are just a bunch of people and you barge in, join in and eventually you're just part of it.

I love the banter and the cheek and getting to know people well enough to give them shit about their dislike of flip flops or their use of belly button fluff to power their time machine. Nonsense is good for the soul and I think that's what frustrates me the most when new people are scared to join in because of the illusion of cliques and harsh comments from a bunch of strangers who appear to know each other.

I like people. They fascinate me. Some days I read the repetitive posts and perhaps my memories of when I started are rose tinted but people were nice to me and it makes me more tolerant. It may be because I have tits or I'm that illusive single bi female and men get a harder time than women but I would be horrified if I ended up bitter and jaded.

I remember those two words from a conversation with a girl who had been round longer than me and I always swore that no matter what, I'd not be that bitter, jaded sort even though I'd seen the same questions over and over. I was new once too so I try to remember that when I'm posting now.

Is it true, is it kind, is it necessary.

I was on here a year or two before I got bored one night and found the forums. Don't know how long I lurked before I posted. My first thread was a question and I got told off for not doing a forum search. Felt pretty crap and unwanted. Went and searched for what I'd posted about and nothing came up! I felt less of a numpty then.

So I figured I may as well stay as we're all human and we all make mistakes or say daft things sometimes.

Haha I remember GT forums. They made this place look like a candidate for the Nobel Peace prize lol. There was one irritating poster on there called Englishman who was probably the most annoying person on there. There was a Pauline Hanson and loads of others. I'm sure there was a mod on there called Dirty Girl? Was that you by any chance?

Just like Fab I was only an occasional poster on GT forums and tried to stay away from controversial threads. This post has bought back memories. GT forums were brilliant but were closed by a mod named 'gone in 60 seconds' lol. Thanks for the memories.

Who were you? Feel free to PM if you're inclined to share. We did a forum invasion from the swinging site to the forums on Gumtree on a recruitment drive!

I'm not sure why we didn't get an instant ban.

You're so right though... the Community forum was carnage. Moderating those by myself was beyond ridiculous. Thick skin required for sure. This lot look like Mary Poppins by comparison. I wonder what happened to Englishman. I still have Pauline on my Bookface.

I was bored at work one night and clicked on the forums by chance. Had a look through a few threads then posted a nocturnal roll call thread to see who was about and if anyone fancies a bit of light hearted chat. Post it most nights now and enjoy the friendly chat it brings. Met quite a few of the people who post on it. I even brave the forums during the day now and post on subjects I can join in with. Most people seem friendly and can't say I've had a bad experience of the forums yet.

Fabs is the 1st real forum I've ever been on what can I say I'm a late starter!

In the beginning I found it scary, never seen so many strong characters in one place, some seemed ready to pounce at the slightest thing.

But I kept on posting, joined in the games got to know a few of the regulars a little better and gave up worrying if people liked me or not.

They've made me realise I'm quite a tolerant person & I like it when someone finds my advice helpful.

If it wasn't for the forums I probably wouldn't have stayed on here so long.

I very rarely posted but loved reading the discussions. Can't remember my username when I was lurking there but used 'crybaby' when GT forums were coming to an end to take the piss lol. There was also a mrmandid who was also a regular. Trying to remember all the names of the regulars. Those were the days. You are right though. This lot are rank amateurs compared to the GT mob lol.

I'm used to forums though,having posted in various forums for years.

This one is no different to any other,there are the same characters,posters that only seem to post back and forth to the same clique of people,knobheads,gobshites etc etc

I lurked for ages before posting. Then started joining in because I found the whole thing fascinating. Other than music forums it's the first one I've really used. I felt like there was a whole set of unwritten as well as the obvious rules and a community of people who seemed to know each other and got pretty harshly smacked down for the first advice thread I posted on. I thought sod it and kept posting. I used to regularly cry laughing reading the forum, which kept me coming back. It still happens occasionally.

Actually thinking about it there are a few of them I keep in touch with still. There have been three marriages from there that I know of with eight children between them now.

I wish my memory was what it used to be cause I could have reeled them off but now all I know are their real names. I can't remember Englishman's sidekick... oh her name was Mia! Wow that just popped into my head! She was feisty!! Oh and Orchid, I liked her too.

I think the fact that there were no rules there it made it a total free for all. They were vile some days.

Have been on this site for 9 years now, but didn't start using the forums until 6 years ago.A couple of other sites that I'm on had forums that went slower than snail's pace so after much lurking, I decided to dip ma toe in here. The first thread I started was about a year later and was music related I think

I never found it cliquey because I realised that people were coming & going all the time and the more I posted (usually inane drivel), the less daunting it became

First joined a forum in 2009 when I was half way through my pregnancy and my and I had split up after almost 10 years. Was the baby centre then I joined a male fitness one cos I wanted advice from men mainly about my ex but then I stayed on there for about a year. Cyber flirted with some Geordie guy in 2009 and we still speak even to this day. On a few fitness forums and a UFC and kickboxing forum where I met a guy and fucked him a few times.

Back to fab, been on and off here since 2011 but only discovered the forums last year, mainly asking advice on a guy that I liked, got a bit of a roasting and accused of being a man because of my writing style or a wind up merchant or whatever but it's nothing I'm not used to.

The forum then went down, when it was up and running again I ventured back in and jumped in to any thread that took my fancy.

Yeah I remember Mia and Orchid too. There was JFK the forum's conspiracy theorist and thinking back now he did make a lot of sense. Also JNT, evie, Amanda...

And all new members were asked 'what colour are your nipples' ? Haha

No idea about EM. Can't imagine him on here. Or maybe EM and Mia have a couples profile on fab lol.

Being a no rules forum it was always buzzing in there.

My first experience of forums wasn't here but about 18 months ago on a gay site. As I used to say about that place:

"I came for the fucks and stayed for the forums."

Which is a shame really, because looking back on it, the place was and experimental, open-access loonie bin where behaviour that would never be tolerated HERE was commonplace.

A few weeks after I was defenetrated from there (exactly one year to the day from when I joined - on the other half's b'day, easy to remember) for 'being a cunt', and still wanting the whole forums thing, I remembered an account on here that I created at the behest of a a shag from there (who's profile here says 'straight' and 'non-smoker' - both of which I'd happily contest in a count of law... but I'm losing my thread...)...

So yeah, I washed up here said hi on the forums - have a feeling it was a thread about 'What are you doing on Fab?' or somesuch - and was 'greeted' by someone who recognised me from the Other Place...

Who then proceeded to PM me, welcome me, and highlight than none of my 'shit' would be tolerated here.

What a welcome that was.

Was lured on here from another site. Been on BDSM and music based forums before and found forums here initially kinda cliquey but soon realised it's like a village pub. There are many who have bonded and know each other well, the attention seekers, the grumpy elders, those here for a laugh, the odd d*unk, the lurkers and village idiot or two.

I like it. I don't get involved in everything but find it informative, fascinating and fun on here. So hurrah

I've been using forums and chat rooms for a long time (non swinging related), I've always enjoyed an interesting debate and discussion, at school and in further education I've been part of a debating group.

In relation to swinging I was on another swinging forum and I was banned permanently because of my (ahem) love of challenge. We had a profile on fab but never logged on regularly and we'd never looked for meets on here.

One day I logged in and clicked into the forum. I could see there were a few feisty people giving some direct viewpoints and I joined it. I posted something, got a bit of a negative response from a certain few, got a few negative private messages but this all made it the more attractive for me and I liked the mix of people

I think there's something for everyone here. I think there will always be trolls and keyboard warriors but the majority of people are cool and they outweigh the dafties for me. There's a thread this morning that proves the point beautifully so I guess if you're a newbie who's lurking then be brave and come say hello... we're a nice bunch really and forums stay alive and interesting when new characters arrive and join in.

"Many moons ago I peeked into the forum to ask a question in the help section, found a couple of chat mods telling users to go forth and multiply and left again not asking my question.

The forum then went down, when it was up and running again I ventured back in and jumped in to any thread that took my fancy.

Did you go back and kick their arses when you got your Mod hat?

i (fem) read for a while and soon got the gist that a lot of people knew others well- in good and bad ways - so i began to put an odd comment here and there - some got a reaction but most were written in the old invisible ink - gradually one or two people began to respond and the forum banter began - i wouldnt say i was one of the main forumites but i love to pass way too much time here - have made a few friends and met some from here too - social and play - a few i would love to meet just for a good ol gossip and a coffee if we were all less busy and closer together but i have their personal numbers and text them -

I can't remember my first post. I read a few first, it did seem a little cliquey initially but then realised a lot of people comment who actually know each other.

I've found most people incredibly helpful, from sex questions to totally random stuff, I've been told some great camp sites too!

I tend to ignore negative ones, laugh at the funny ones and occasionally choke on my tea at some of the more outrageous ones.

It's also a good job I'm self employed as I spend far too long here being nosey..

I just clocked in, added my typical stuff and started noticing and getting to know others. It's a process of evolution, and my mind is a bit random, so the forums tend to match.

I'm guessing if I was more uptight, regular and less random, I'd probably have wandered off. I think I influence others to wander off, as my thinking isn't always coherent or joined up. I don't take much very seriously and don't do kiss, fuck or murder type threads - there's plenty of other stuff.

If I have a challenge here, it would be to be more concise - but like many I tend to be a talker in real life. Of course there are others with drastically different views, cunts and unattractive personalities - I'll be thought of that way by some. We can all get on and do what we enjoy.

This is a walk in the park compared to some of the international newsgroups I used to go on, there were some real sociopaths on there!

I just saw an interesting discussion on here and added my two pennyworth, then got hooked on using it as a distraction when sat at my computer trying to work!

I know... some things never change! I remember being massively intimidated by a couple of the posters though and it made me laugh a lot when I met Blue... she frightened the life out of me way back but she's lovely when you meet her (just don't tell her I said that!)

Funny the perceptions you see of people through their postings though... then you meet them in person and most of the time they're just the same. I do miss the old days and I think my big trip down memory lane has made me smile a lot.

I love that you've all shared your stuff too. People are utterly fascinating.

I'd been on fab for a few months before finding the forums. Totally by accident, I'd never scrolled down that far.....

I didn't know what they were or what they were for, I'd never posted on a forum of any kind before, fab took my forum virginity.

Initially I was really apprehensive about posting, it seemed like everyone knew everyone else, it still does sometimes, but I'm still relatively new to Fab compared to lots of people so it's only to be expected. Being the newbie doesn't bother me anymore. I post. If someone likes it super. If they don't, it's no bother.

Can't remember my first thread comment or the first one I started. I've started a few that were well received and some that died on their ass.

I posted an intro on the introduction forum that got no response whatsoever. Having said that, it really was the world's worst intro. Truly dreadful.

I've had a few heated debates, there are a couple of subjects I'm passionate about. Don't we all?

Hopefully I've been able to offer constructive advise to people who've posted and asked for help.

I love the banter, the humour, the sarcasm. I love how someone with a genuine problem will get so much support, help and compassion, even from total strangers.

The forums are full of absurd bizarre nonsense. Pooches, time machines, cake, haribo, Jims mum, all sorts of crazy.

At times I've felt like a part of the forums, at times as welcome as a fart in a space suit, but if it wasn't for the forums I'd probably have left a long time ago.

The crazy days are best, a few months ago someone resurrected just about every Christmas thread ever written. Absolute carnage, chaos and Hysterical at the same time.

Long live the forums!!!!!!!
