Christmas Trees ...... Real or Fake?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

When I was a lad each Christmas my Mum & Dad would decorate the same tree with the same decorations. Since I've been married we have a real tree and change the decos each year. I love the smell of the pine leaves, to me getting the tree is the start of Christmas. What's your preference?

We always had a real one for many years, but with the prices they charge now, plus the mess they leave, I splashed out on a artificial one recently!

WAS always a traditionalist. Now the artificial ones look so good and can come ready decked. So much time and effort saved.

Those that want tradition ; why aren't they killing their own geese and roasting them over hot stones ?

Gimme a fake one ..... after all ... it's not a real star on the top.

growing up we always had a real one, it is only since moving here that I have had a fake one. I tried to start the tradition we have back home, of a tree decorating party, where everyone makes a decoration as their entrance to the party, and after a few years your tree has all handmade decorations, that have meaning and good memories attatched..I have to say that friends and family here were not to impressed or interested..lol..So I have made all my decorations myself, including strings of popcorn instead of garland. Brings a little bit of home to me for the holidays

Angus & Findhorn

I go for a giant Easter Egg shaped object and decorate with witches and pumpkin baubles... and always pops a man with gunpowder and anti government tendencies on the top..

I am truly a traditionalist

We go fake every year. Can't stand the mess pine needles leave behind and you're usually still hoovering the darn things up in Spring!

We have three trees, one for the lounge, one for the front guest room and a floor to ceiling spiral that hangs in the dining area. (that's my fave as it's so unique and always attracts comments from visitors who've never seen one before)

I have a nice fake one but we usually put lights on one of the trees outside as well, we buy a really big Christmas tree sometimes and have it lit up in the garden, I love the smell of a real tree indoors but can't abide with the mess! Z

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

Always a real one for me.

Love the smell of the pine needles, and its one advantage of having wooden floors, quick sweep and the needles are gone.

I have a fake one but it is 8' tall, cant be doing with small trees.

I also have to have a fairy light on each branch, I dont like the sparse lighting look. I do change my lights every 2 years, but I have my decorations for years on end. I add to every year. But the ones I cherish are the pine cone with glitter that my youngest son made at nursery and the christmas angel made out of paper doilies when the other son was again around 2 years old.

I would love a real tree but with the frequency that my cat pulls it over, there'd be nothing left but twigs after a day!

I have 4 artificial ones. A 6ft green fibre optic one. A 3ft black and silver fibre optic one. A 2ft green cheapy for work and a 12in battery operated light-up, pre-decorated one which will probably also go into the office this year.
