I think it's interesting that it seems to be ok for women to use a bit of vibrating plastic to have a wank. But a man that displays emotional needs and therefore wants a toy more like a person is considered odd.

I do have conflicting opinions on this too.
I can agree with the viewpoint that they are just sex toys, a much higher spec than their blow up predecessors etc. This conflicts though when they are not treated as a sex toy but humanised by dressing up in day clothes (I can understand the stimulus for sexy lingerie), taken out for trips, treated as a partner with guys preferring to interact with these.
I guess we do form attachments to objects though, be it a teddy bear, a baby doll etc.
