Think I may have solved a Traffic problem
Jump to: Newest in thread
After some weeks travelling the A1 and numerous other dual carriageways, I seem to have spent lots of time (sometimes over 5 mins) waiting for a truck to overtake another truck when he/she is only doing maybe a thousandth of a mile per hour faster than the one in the inside lane, and seeing the miles of cars building up behind.
So, I now suggest, (after donning my tin hat and taking cover) That trucks over 7.5 tonne are only allowed to use the inside lane on a dual carriageway unless turning right or passing a much slower vehicle, i.e. a tractor or similar or allowing someone to join from a slip road etc.
I believe this would help traffic flow more freely along 2 lane carriageways.
after all, all trucks have speed limiters fitted, so their top speed is very similar to each other !! |

"The inside lane is my lane. I don't want it clogged up with lorries or trucks thank you "
A better idea would be to confine all car drivers to A roads and leave the motorways to the truck and van drivers who know how to drive properly |

Isn't it also about engine torque, when you have it running at top speed the option to slow for a vehicle in front or overtake losing speed and torque is no option at all,
You can't fix something unless you understand all facets of that thing
Keep them over there so I can have these two lanes, they are not allowed in lane 3, that's not enough we want them down to 1,
Is how it sounds |

It is frustrating but patience is a virtue and at least there's the option of a 3rd lane on the motorway.
The one thing that boils my piss are the lorry drivers who pull out the instant their indicator goes on, leaving no time for me to checknits clear to change lanes. |

yes agree can he a pain when they just pull out,
But for me it's because when in the motorhome on a long journey I will sit behind (at a safe distance) a truck and let them cut the air reducing my fuel costs. Haha |

Why is everyone talking about 3 lane motorways when the op said on a dual carriageway?!
Too quick to get the digs in that they forgot to read me thinks!
I used to get all het up about these things till I realised that the delay in my journey was really insignificant. |

I wish everyone would get out their cars and buy a push bike. It would free up the motorways beautifully so I no longer get stuck behind silly car drivers lane hogging and everyone would be fitter so I would have more hotties to perves |

Too many people are way too self obsorbed to realise that everyone has to share the roads and that their journey is no more important than anyone elses |

radical idea ....could motorists who also use the dual carriageway that these infuriating lorry drivers also use ...maybe consider leaving the house 10 minutes earlier so that they arent on such a tight schedule getting frustrated over what takes about 30 seconds |

no I firmly believe lorries should be banned from the road , during peak hours and weekends
During the rush hour the lorry drivers should be forced to take a paid break if not at the yard
problem solved |

This
I always plan to arrive at any destination a full half hour before I need to be. But only do I not stress during the journey over a few minutes of delay, I also have time to wind down from the discomfort of being cooped up in the car for hours. |

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire) |
"Time motorway driving lessons or test were compulsory for all imho"
Great, are you going to pay for me to travel over a hundred miles south to do that? There are no motorways near where I stay (North east scotland) but when I knew I needed to start driving on them, I ensured I had the skills to do so. I now do a fair amount of motorway driving - but from speaking to police friends, its people who become complacent that are more of an issue. |

Drivers are already forced to take breaks by law. Taking more time out of the daily duty hours allowance is just absurd. |
