I've not had to use it fortunately but I had some training with an A&E consultant before I did the support for a 2000 mile charity cycle. It scared me into nagging them all to wear their helmets at all times.

I did the St Johns ambulance course when I worked for Waitrose. Had to do CPR on an old lady who collapsed in the shop. Ive never been so happy than when the paramedics took over. She made a full recovery |

Trained and used it for minor and major injuries. Worst being doing triage at a road side accident. Last year saved a colleague that had collapsed and was struggling to breathe. that has made me think of retraining as a health professional |

I've done basic first aid and CPR.
I wouldn't actually mind doing a course but St John's don't really seem to have them on often in my area.
If I'm honest I don't actually care about helping people it's just nice to know what to do when shit goes down. |

It is a very useful life skill to have. I wish employers would try and rotate the people they have trained so that more of the UK population had some knowledge even if its not fully upto date.
Strangely both the emergency incidents I've been involved in required action outside the normal responses but the basic training still helped. |

im a first aider though out of the training now
but ive had to use it many a time accidents on the road traveling on the bus a lady had a fit so went to there aid
also a lad had his hand trapped by the machine they was working on lucky it didnt drag them into it sent them to hospital but they came back next day hand bandaged up to hell
its something that I would retrain again to do as comes in handy so many times
at socials they have been enough nurses there when things have happened and you can tell they are nurses due to there training
havent had to use it yet at a social event |

Do it
South East Coast Ambulance Service desperately need staff at the moment, their training HQ is only up at Banstead. |

"I'm trained and have had to use it frequently. In the past two months I've had to resuscitate the same person 5 times! its cos you're just too sexy, innit? "
Not really. Our wonderful health service and social services don't think a disabled person derseeves a quality of life and refuse to carry out a simple operation that would solve his problem. The last time I had to resuscitate him he'd been vomiting faeces! |

I had to go private to get my daughters operation, because it wasn't a life saving operation it wasn't deemed important enough to do it, for her it was the difference between walking unaided and not, so though not life saving it was life changing, but they thought it was OK to leave a small child dragging herself around the floor by her arm when her problem could and has been fixed
The NHS are massively under funded and sometimes their desissions are shit for us, I've called them every name under the sun while trying to get my child's legs sorted and I work for them |

"My training is out of date. I only ever used it on the dog when she cut her paw really badly.
I should update as you never know when you'll need it.
"
Depending on how long ago you did your training, the only recent relevant changes have been AED awareness and the compression/breath ratio for CPR. |

I didn't have the AED awareness training but I always notice national AED and CPR week in June. The adverts on using Staying Alive have lodged in my noggin.

It might be worth you doing a refresher course, but a full course probably isn't worth it - you will already have done 90% of the current training, and AEDs are a doddle to use. I use a 24 lead ECG in conjunction with an AED where indicated - some people just don't have that much room on their bodies |
