"What sort of bike
Not a Harley as they are only good in straight lines and I prefer something a little off track " you can put it on the back of the camper van ... I would need to stop off at Ranch so I can see cowboys and there horses. |

"It's on my dream list
It was awesome whilst I took the Pontiac off the freeway, going round the backroads was amazing, no stops for many many miles "
Route 66 always reminds me of that film "duel" big truck trying to ram the little car off the road lol. |

There is a military charity, bike tours for wounded or something like that - they do organised bike tours of Route 66, about four a year I think. You pay for flights and bike hire and the charity pays for a wounded soldier (male or female) to attend one of which will be your pillion for the trip. They organise everything, you get to ride in a group and the banter is second to none - my mate did it and said it was the best trip he has ever done on a bike |

I did this last year with a large group on Harley's (I ride a Fatboy here so was used to them...the rest of the group were newbies)
I can provide details of the company if you want
But the Route 66 parts were really boring tbh.
The best part was a mountain bit we rode where I was allowed to go off on my own to scrape the foot boards while the straight liners took their time.
Fantastic fun biking holiday though... Not cheap of course
One day at the Hoover Dam it was 44C and we were all in full gear...... A tad warm... You need to buy a 'mesh jacket' to ride over there due to the heat...
Anyway....do it.......long time dead |

Thinking about it, it was the year before...
Last year we did the PCH from LA to SF (in a car)
Now THAT would have been a far better biking trip tbh... Lots more twisty bits.
Best twisty bits on my own bike have been in the Alps tbh (with the same biking holiday company as above) |

"Ok Courtney, what particular places would you suggest to visit whilst ambling through the states?"
If you're talking about driving tours there are a few that would be more interesting. How about taking a drive through the Rockies in Colorado and Utah (I70), adding in some of the national parks in Utah (Moab (arches, canyonlands), Bryce canyon). You can also drive through monument valley.
Or, you can drive the Pacific Coast highway in California. It will take you on an incredibly scenic drive the length of California along the coast. You can also visit the amazing national parks in California (Yosemite, Redwood).
Another option is to drive through the New England States on the east coast, down to Washington D.C., and then on to do a driving tour of the Civil War Batlefields.
There are so many better driving trips in the US than Route 66. But I'm sure there is plenty to see and fun to be had no matter where you drive.

"What sort of bike
How about a bored and stroked Bonnie? "
Fuck, I'd forgotten about this thread
But yeah, that would be the sort of thing. Every bike I've owned I've stripped down and rebuilt maself, so it would definitely be customised to a certain degree
NO sidecars though, they trash yer frame and are most definitely are not cool |
