He was a good serious actor to before the Zucker brothers transformed him into a comedy legend.
The Forbidden Planet is probably in my top ten Sci Fi films of all time.

i got all the police squad shows (6) on dvd which came out years before the naked gun movies.
sometimes he didnt have to do anything to get a laugh, just look.

Oh nooo, I didnt know, I honestly didnt know until reading this thread.
I remember watching the Naked Gun films, determined to hate them because I dont usually go for stuff like that, but giggling like a man thing at the corny jokes  |

Lets just hope we have a re-run of all the Police Squad's, Naked Guns and Airplanes over Xmas - for once we may have something genuinely funny to laugh at over the festive period.
I've got them all on DVD, but somehow it's better when they are on TV - must be something to do with the anticipation of waiting for them to start.
One of my favourites was in the cockpit on one of the Airplane films ..
'No 3 engine is running a little hot'
Then the camera panned to a row of buttons and one was flashing red with the logo 'A Little Hot' written on it
So simple, so obvious but sooooo bloody funny |
