You need a man!

My mum says when I need something done I can't do.
This frustrates me, as in very independent, but agree I need a male to do some things. (DIY) based.
The only other times I like a man around is, when I'm poorly or for sex and sometimes I feel I'd like one on holiday with me.
Do you get frustrated by the "you need a man" comment?

My mum would never say that to any of us girls. We are independent like she was. Although I think she would like me to find a nice man for the company she knows I don't need one. |

My mum is very old fashioned. In here day she always wanted to be a mother and house wife... So she would do all the house wife duties and dad would be the one bringing in the money and doing all the man jobs (in those days) |

Men were not born with a screwdriver in hand and the innate knowledge of how to hang a door.
I can cook, iron, sew and clean (which were viewed as stereotypically women's skills).
I don't see gender as a limitation to learning a skill.

I recently entertained a FAB lady and we had dinner at mine which was
Pan Seared Scallops in a lime and cress sauce
Then Sea Bass (pan fried) on a bed of thin noodles tossed in a light peanut dressing.
Dessert was a summer strawberry mouse with a Baileys laced sponge.
I iron and hang doors!

My mum was a housewife but my dad helped out and being in the army he could sew. He went to a technical college and was an electrical engineer. My mum done the gardening,my dad would wash up,cook and go shopping. None of my friends dads ever did any of those things. He was as much to do with us being independent as my mum was. |

No. That's what handy men are for. My grans the same though, keeps bugging me about getting settled down again. No chance I'm having far too much being single and still have all my girl friends for meals out, holidays, etc. |

I'm really not. Although I'm not sure I'm particularly normal. Never lived with anyone, my longest (full-time) relationship has been about 18 months. I like being alone. I've never been lonely. I like my life.

When I was younger I always said I didn't want a man. And I did fine without one. My grandma was always trying to set me up with people.
But now that I've been with Marc, I will honestly say I would be a bit lost without him. Do I need him for household tasks and such? No, not really. But I need him emotionally now.
I know this is more of a single woman's thread, but I just thought I'd give my experience as a woman who always knew she didn't need a man and now can't imagine life without one.

I hate the implication that I'm not 'complete' without a man. In terms of DIY my dad is pretty good t stuff like that (we went chainsaw shopping together the other day) and when I'm sick I can just about look after myself, sometimes my friends can come and stroke my forehead, and when I'm down about being manless, I just have to remind myself the majority of them are senseless fuck wits, often by looking on here! |

I can take the bins out, wire a plug, read a Haynes manual, treat vinyl records correctly and assemble flat pack furniture but I am atrocious at sewing. So if there's a man good at buttons and hems then he goes to to front of the queue. Or I can pop into a tailor's. |

I don't need a man, I'm quite independent and handy with a screwdriver, crap at sewing just so I don't conform to the stereotype too much lol, but I'd quite like one, more for sharing life than chores, though help with chores would be welcomed too |
