I have to laugh at my mother. I'm sure she thinks because I'm single and have been for a while (through choice) that I must be sat at home every night sobbing into a pillow watching romantic comedies and depressed at how single I am!!
I'm off out tomorrow night with a male friend and she's already making jokes about moving him in and things like that. Don't get me wrong he's a lovely lad but im not wanting a relationship at all at the moment!!
Anyone else feel like people feel sorry for them because they are single and get the feeling that they don't think you can be happy on your own? |

I know plenty of people that go to the gym like you do though shag and still have a relationship/are married with kids etc. you could make time for a lady if you wanted to! Especially if she was into that too! X |

My mum was glad I got shot of my ex he is bad news. Maybe it's because she is terrible with her own company hates being on her own if dad is away at work and there's no one to keep her company she'll be climbing the walls. |

"Oh yes!
At least I no longer get comments about having children!
I still get those! "
Certain people used to try to tell me that I'd change my mind about having kids when my own was in my arms (bit too late then if I was right all along and still didn't want them! ). Now cos of my health issues they're too wary of broaching whether or not I still can have them. It makes life a bit easier without the babies chats. |

I chuckle, it's funny at weddings and occasions like that, some people just don't understand that being fussy and not settling for an average relationship is a good thing. |

I don't think anyone feels sorry for me for being lonely. They know I have a full and varied life, and some people even comment that they are slightly envious.
I'm not the only single person in my family. I think the fact we are all happy helps. |

Ah see it's different if you are someone like that. My mother is one that is miserable on her own and I think that's why she thinks I must be too x |

My ex in-laws ask me all the time if I'm seeing anyone yet. It's been 5 years and I'm very happy on my own. My plus one at weddings is my single daughter |

Do you think that you will still be happy if that's the case in say 5 years time? Are you content with your own company? X |

To be fair it's mostly the people in my department at work that enquire and nothing quite so intrusive as my parents. |

I dunno, I'm the same but the right person is fine as a full time fixture; it's only the wrong person that doesn't fit with you/your life. |

This!
When you work anti-social hours and all hours, the last thing you want is someone telling you you're neglecting them! |

Its the old joke isn't it:
I always hated weddings because the elderly would come over and poke me saying "You're next.". They stopped doing it when I started doing it to them at funerals. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
It doesn't happen for me. No one expects me to be with anyone now or ever.
I don't get lonely as such, but sometimes I feel it would be nice if someone found me to be special enough to want to be with me above anyone else.
I'm mostly the booby prize.

I cannot stand anyone's company for too long, even my own. after my last relationship, noone will ask, with my future plans, noone will ask, but I am my own judge, jury and executioner in all matters, and I'm too quick to don the black cap so to speak |

I don't believe everyone who is in a relationship has to settle for average or is not fussy - I waited a long time, as I was a major commitment phone - with the right person (and this is in response to other posts) you don't have to compromise or answer to anyone because it is such a natural thing - I did not honestly every think I would say that because I love my own company (and we can be in the house, but in different rooms, doing our own thing, not have to be in each other's pockets) - two or three, even a year ago I would have said I could not have a relationship, now I just feel so comfortable in one - so, I think if you don't feel that, you are settling for less than - interesting to reflect on this topic, thanks OP |

I must also interject that I have not once actively looked for a relationship in the last ten years. I thought I would spend at least one year on my own (as is normally suggested) I did not expect to still be single after ten, but hey, that's life and I do think if it will happen it will happen, will I feel the same in another ten years? I have no idea x |

In a nutshell a lot of people think that everyone should conform to some rulebook or something, usually on some subconscious level, forgetting somewhat that each to their own. |

My famfamy could see how unhappy I was when married so it came as no surprise when I walked out and left everything, bar my kids behind over 5 years ago .
They can see how happy I am now and understand why I could never see myself in a long term relationship ever again .
Love my single life, have my grown up kids still living with me and have fab for my fun times . Happy days. |

I'm just thankful I came out of my 10 year relationship with a child because I've been single almost 6 years since him and not through choice either.
Was 26 when I had my daughter, didn't even think about guys for 2 years, was too busy adjusting to being a mum and living on my own. At 28 I thought I'd give dating a try and now I'm 32 and finding someone I like that wants to make a go of things just hasn't happened for me.

I tried dating again after splitting with my daughters dad, twice, neither worked out. I dont want my daughter growing up getting attached to men who then leave, and I've now got too used to my own space, a full time partner just wouldn't work for me now. I have a fwb, who i see when its mutually convenient, and the freedom to still see others, its ideal.
do sometimes get lonely, but have friends and family local, this isnt how i thought life would be, but it is, and im not unhappy about it.x |
