Different strokes for different folks.
There are those who don't like nor use them - that's understandable and I'll respect their wishes.
There are those who use them to test the waters before sending a message to someone - I've had this in the past but it's not something I do myself.
And then there are those who use them almost like a nudge on MSN, for saying Hi to friends and existing contacts without having to send a full-written message. This is how I tend to use them. |

"whats the point in winks? r they any good 4 any1?"
The point is fine for people who prefer to know who is interested but don't want to answer lots of messages. For others they think they are a lazy way of showing interest. It is amusing though that some who prefer messages will ignore them and not reply. So in reality its horses for courses as you will not please everyone. |

I use winks, and I always respond to winks. They are there for a purpose. Why would the Webmasters put a wink facility on the site without a reason.
If I've seen your profile, like it, I'll wink. My way of saying "I like you, look at me if you want to". If someone winks me back, then I'll write and get into dialogue with them. I've met quite a few people like that, and they've all turned out to be very nice.
It's a tool, use it. |

I always reply to messages whether I'm interested or not, unless I receive a first message telling me that the person sending it wants to f**k me or what they want to do to me but to be fair I say on my profile any messages like this will not get a reply |

I seldom respond to winks, unless I consider the other person exceptional.
I don't send winks. If I like what I see, I'll send a cheeky message instead of a wink.
Flattery works on gents too I find! |

Same here!

Nope: never do: don't browse profiles, look at galleries, go into chat...blimey all those site functions I don't use after all the effort put in by the Webmaster: he must be gutted I'm not using his tool: my bad! |

I love winks, saves me a whole lot of hassle if I get a wink from a decent profile
I don't feel guilty if I ignore them and just see them as a bit of cheeky fun
I can see why others hate them though but they don't bother me at all

ditto to that. We use them as just another tool for establishing contact. It's no different to flashing a smile at someone you fancy in the street, shops etc. It works for us. |

Sending unsolicited messages is not a productive use of my time.
I read profiles and don't send one liners or copy 'n' paste messages, but I would say for every 20 messages I've sent, 15 are deleted or ignored, 3 get 'no thanks' as a reply and 2 get some kind of positive response that may or may not lead anywhere.
Sending 20 messages takes about an hour and that's on top of the time it takes to find 20 people I'd like to speak to.
So if I need to initiate contact with anyone, chances are it'll start with a wink. |
