So after my health scare earlier this year, I want to get off my arse and get myself fitter and healthier. Although don't think I'll even get to the 6 pack levels that some of the guys on here have.
I've done the normal, cut out crap food, eating more fruit and veg. Started to do more exercise, mostly only walking at the moment as really don't get on with running/jogging. So far lost a couple of stone since the start of the year, recon another 1 to 1 1/2 to go.
Any ideas how I can step it all up a bit, sort of to the next level?

I play basketball to keep fit.
I also lift little weights and do lots of basic exercise while watching tv. It doesn't take any extra time that way so I find I'm more likely to do it

Hi,
cycling, either on road or excercise bike in front of the tv or at a gym?
Personally, if you are capable at this point go for some core strength type training like you'd do at an MMA gym or decent general fitness gym. It can be really tough but get's very good results.
I'm a (very) ex bodybuilder and it's how I'd choose to train if I could train these days
Cheers,

You could start a basic bodybuilding program to do weights 3 times a week then after a while increase the weights.
Mon Chest/biceps
Wed Back Legs
Fri Shoulders/triceps
You can do cardio on the other days
I personally prefer to do back with legs, not many do, you can mix and match what you want there.
Remember if you wanna see the gains allow at least 48 hrs between the workout days as that's what it take for the protein synthesis to recover your muscles and add mass. And rememeber to eat one gram of protein per pound of muscles so if you weight 180lbs, eat 180g protein, keep carbs above your protein intake.
Then for inspiration watch some utube clips, would advice to check out jay cutler and kali muscles. |

Starting out on a fitness regime I'd concentrate on core muscles. Squats, plank, dorsal raises, press ups and sit ups. Don't kick the backside out of it to start with. Concentrate on getting the exercise technique right first, there are plenty of websites that provide guidance.
Gentle runs/walks mixed with some interval training to improve cardiovascular performance.
The Army website has a getting yourself ready section that has videos of the exercises, they also have fitness apps that can be downloaded that would help. |
