I am off to France for 2 weeks and need to load up the Kindle. I like sword and sandles, crime thrillers, biographies.
Any recommendations???
Cheers

If you like golden age crime try some of the detection club stuff - contributors include Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers.
Alan Bradley's Flavia de Luce novels are fun crime stories.
For something a bit grittier try Ann Cleeves and her Vera Stanhope books.
If you like American ones then PJ Tracey, Faye Kellerman and also Jonathan Kellerman. |

Modern British crime with a humorous twist I would go for Christopher Brookmyre. His early ones are more fun; he has become more serious recently. Sandals and sorcery - you couldn't go wrong with reading or re-reading David Eddings's Belgariad books. There are loads more but those popped into my head first. |

Try anything by Jasper Fforde.
I'm just reading the Nursery Crime Division novels, where Berkshire is home to anthropomorphic characters.
In the first Humpty Dumpty is killed; and the second links in Goldilocks and the three bears;
Investigated by DI Jack Spratt and DS Mary Mary |

I actually really enjoyed the Robert Galbraith book... The Cuckoo's Calling.
I also love Karen Rose... she's twisted.
I'm in the middle of Gone Girl.
Have a look at the line up for the Edinburgh Book Festival, you can usually pick up some recommendations from the reviews there. |

Anything by Elmore Leonard , the absolute genius of American crime fiction. Anything by James Lee Burke, also American CF. Also a genius. Both are extremely talented writers. Not always the case with crime fiction. |
