Lol!
Google is your friend...
In a nutshell it's when you change the temperature of the water in your shower from hot to cold. Apparently it helps with muscle soreness and even strengthens ones immune system.
As an alternative, one can warm up in a sauna, have a cold shower immediately...and then repeat....
It sounds like sensory overload, but those that do it, swear by it. According to the fellas that write the QI books, there is evidence that supports the efficacy of such ....madness! |

I can't imagine ever doing that kinda thing deliberately.
I thought I'd seen the last of it when we moved outta the place that had an electricity meter that took 50p coins back in the 80's!! |

Explaining the nature of your post was more efficient than me googling. And no, I don't have 'contrast' showers. |

"My shower did it automatically when the boiler was on the blink. Going hot to cold and back again just makes me feel sick."
I did it to a friend of mine recently cos I washed my hands while she was in the shower.
Twice. |

At a previous residence, the same effect could be achieved when you flushed one of the toilets. Not a pleasant surprise... |

"I really thought this was gonna be a lot more filthy! "
I'm sure someone somewhere has fetishised the practice somehow... If I try hard enough, I had imagine a domme subjecting her sub to such an 'ordeal' |

Done the sauna to swimming pool, not the best idea but it is nice going back in the sauna afterwards. |

I used to visit the hot springs in the Canadian rockies.
You'd bask in the heat of the open air pools, jump out, roll around in the snow and plunge back in |

Did a full immersion into a hole cut into a lake in Scandanavia swum across the hole and popped out the other side like a cork. Coldest I have ever been thought I was going to die. And when I heated up the pins and needles burnt like hell. If I hadn't had people yelling instructions at me when I got out I would have died in a heap.
From now on you can find me in the steam room my gym has a cold plunge pool that I won't go anywhere near. |

Not sure it counts but the old jump under the cold shower after sitting in the sauna and then hitting the steam room and back again is a winner with me! |
