I went to my first class today and as expected, I was the only guy...
But my word, it wasn't easy at all! Another reminder that just because I can lift *relatively* heavy weights - it means nothing if I can't lift them more than a few times before the burn getting too much!
The instructer kept shouting encouragement at the class but I could tell it was more for me than anyone else!
What's annoying is that my biceps looked really pumped - but in terms of weight, I hardly lifted anything!
Nonetheless, the only way is up!
Oh and to those guys that say they love looking at the lycra-clad women at these classes...I couldn't, even if I tried, due to the amount of sweat dripping out of my eyeballs! |

Well done OP.
Bear in mind that your body will be good at what it's used to doing. It takes time to get used to a new regime. Switching routines is a good thing so your body doesn't get into a rut.
Work at whatever level you can comfortably manage, without it being too easy, and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. You won't make good gains if you hurt yourself or if your form suffers because you're trying to lift too much. |

"It certainly isn't easy... After doing those 'pulses' ...never mind 50kg, 10kg feels too much!!
Stick with it. It'll get easier as your body gets used to what you're asking of it."
You're right - I'm sure.
Wondering what sort of regime I should adopt.
There do lots of classes, and they have the gym.
Do I stick with 2-3 mixed classes and some cardio...or.. I don't know.
I'd like to get firmer around the tummy and more fitter and more muscular all over. |

They do... I think I must've looked pretty deranged in the final reps..which felt like they would never end!

Pilates is great for core strength and as you get stronger your posture will improve. Be warned though, it seems like teensy movements that can't possibly be making any difference. Until you get halfway through a good class and you realise how hard it is!
Yoga is great to improve flexibility and learn to relax and control your breathing. Quite a few weights guys used to come to the yoga classes to get back the flexibility they were losing as they pumped their muscles up. |

Great advice I instruct pump and advise anyone new to stay light for first few sessions |
