A little clapped out red mini.

The subframe was in a bad way and when I revved the engine the bonnet and wings lifted up LOL, quite disconcerting.

But I loved that saggy old cloth cat.

There is only one car worth having and we are talking the ultimate in cars!

Its the Lada Riva 1500 and the colour of choice is pale beige with orange and chocolate brown pinstripes down its flanks. Couples with plush milk chocolate brown velour upholstery and a classic dash mounted tape player make it the king of cars to pass your test in and keep for ever

I had 16 driving lessons with my mum back in the 80s before passing my test first time. My dad said 'Ha! If you pass your test first time with your mother teaching you I'll buy you a car!'

True to his word, he turned up and handed me the keys to a Ford Escort MKI in midnight blue with a narrow red stripe down the side. I named the car Errol and he transformed our lives (me, ex-hubby and 2 kids). Our world opened up and we went out and about everywhere in that little car.

I've had dozens of cars since but I'll always have a soft spot for Errol the Escort

Passed my test in a 1969 diesel LandRover Station Wagon. 45mph flat out downhill with the wind behind you. Plenty torque but no speed, rattled like hell at anything over 25mph - good fun though. Funny thing, I typed in the Reg and it still shows on the DVLA website. I still remember the day My dad bought it.

First car I owned was a mini van - blue and rust. Turned it upside down through a hedge and into a field just outside of Amble. My Dad and me went up the following morning with the LandRover to drag it out of the field and what happened ? The Landrover broke a rear half shaft and 4 wheel drive hadn't worked for yonks so couldn't even engage the 2 front wheels to get us out the field !

A Mark 1 Ford Transit tipper truck with a York deisel engine in it, anyone who knows about these will know that they were the worst engine ever made. Me and my mate had to use a can of aero-start and then tow it every morning for a year to start it untill finaly we had enough money to buy a newer truck.

20 years later i still have Transits and have had many during that time and wouldnt change to anything else...

Driving 17 years - got licence 4 years ago (hmm - irish!) 1st car was a white one, blew the engine (number plate is proudly hanging on living room wall as a reminder, i had a little tear when the scrappy took it away). 2nd car, a silver one - blew the engine. 3rd car, an orange one - blew the engine. 4th car, a navy one - still alive and running, but each time i take it to mechanic he says, "surely its dead this time!" But hey, it lives, so each time im leaving his garage, he says, "thanks, without you i wouldnt be in business!"
