"Hello good people.......serious question concerning windows 10...
?...has anyone installed it with any success and if so any opinions about it???
?..or maybe any problems with it..."
I'd like to know this too, keep getting annoying pop ups on my laptop telling me to upgrade to windows 10 for free for a limited time only? I've decided not to do it so far.
I'm a kind of "if it ain't broke don't try to fix it" sort of guy and my laptop works just fine as it is so what are the benefits of getting windows 10? |

According to the adverts life will be so much more amazing, especially if you're a child.
I'm ignoring the pop ups too. |

1. Windows 10 first requires a fully up to date copy of your existing version. So if you gave not updated everything it will keep waiting or even appearing to fall.... in my case this was a Desktop only update to Skype that held mine up.
2. The free is only if you register it within the first year. After that you will need to pay for it.
Those are the facts to consider now an opinion....
If you want a secure PC that is not open to hacking and other maleware that can either steal your details or participate in crime or other hacking then you NEED to be up to date.
As for this new version. I don't like the loss of Internet Explorer as given the history of it being built in for years has lead to a number of older products taking full advantage. So they will likely break under Windows 10 unless there are workarounds. Eg Microsoft Money... fantastic tool that stops under 10 (until you fix it).
But I'd say the upside is greater than the downside. |

I installed it on the release day and have found it to be fine. There are many visual things which have changed, but very few obvious changes in functionality that the everyday users will notice.
Obvious things though are: New Improved Start Menu, replacement Web Browser called Edge, addition of Cortana for searches, better Windows Snap thingie, and a search box on the Task Bar.
Also, you can force windows to update without waiting for your slot to be allocated. Just go to their page here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

I've been using it since the tech preview started.... Mainly because I was running a pirated 8.
Works fine for me. This morning I used the alarm clock feature to wake me up
Also, been playing WoW for marathon sessions and no issues |

There are a few threads running on windows 10, since its launch last week. Many of us have it installed with minimal issues.
It's more secure than the others and may speed up your computer.
It's interface is more like 7 than 8 and they have the start button too.
Once installed you can revert back to your 7/8 if you don't like it.
Recommend you find the other threads for more information. |

"I've had XP Pro on ma pc and will continue to do so until it gives up the ghost.
Will keep an eye on this thread because I've been told that Windows 7 is better."
Windows 7 is fantastic but only if you get the professional version.
Vista and 8-8.1 were shite they got it bang on with 7 and I swear by it.
Depending on the age of yours laptop you may be better staying on xp due to driver issues etc but I've never found a problem on 7 professional I couldn't find a solution to. |
