Dinner in 1950.

The programme has a family taken back to the 1950s to live and eat. The kitchen has been converted back to what it would have been then.

I've been suckered into another programme.

I didn't know Tuesdays could be so exciting on the television.

There's no fridge, just a marble slab in the larder to keep things cool.

I'd wager it looks a lot more austere than todays palavers and malarkeys.

Was once at the York Castle Museum where there was a 1953 Coronation room. I mentionned to the young lady we were with and said "Your mum grew up like that".

She couldn't stop laughing.

The flour man was called Fred, I think. He has odds and sods in him now.

We used to rush to make dinner, with my mother shouting at us to peel veg or whatever before the power went off.

NO. Vile.

Presumably your power cuts were scheduled though, as ours were, at least you knew when you'd be with or without? And supposedly plan accordingly.

Petrol coupons too? Though i dont think they ever actually got used.

They didn't feature Neapolitan ice cream. It was quite a few years after leaving home before I realised that you could have all three flavours together. We were only allowed to have each flavour separately with chocolate kept for last as it was my father's favourite.

I think chicken in a basket was more early 80s. Saturday nights after the driving range Essex and then to the pub for chicken or scampi in a basket.
