to forgo an active sex life in the swinging community that is supposed to promote free thinking in regards to relationships... and then to be close minded about all sorts of other things such as perspectives on topics that deviate outside the norm...
I have my perspective, and i clearly think this is true. However i'd be interested to hear the opposing perspective in order to broaden the depths of my awareness.

well thats hypocritical then isn't it? i'm going to be outwardly open minded about this... yet im going to tell people to shove it when they say anything slightly abnormal on another topic. This makes very little sense to me. |

Yes I see where you are coming from but it was the bit about forgoing an active sex life in the swinging community that lost me.
Maybe it's just me. It's been a long week already. |

Not at all!
The swinging community is representative of the community at large and not necessarily more open minded.
You'll find all sorts in the forum; racists, sexists, ageists, religious bigots, conservatives and liberals...

well forgive me for assuming, but i'm guessing people actually have commenced in sexual activities as a consequence to dealings on this site. Seeing as the swinging lifestyle requires a certain level of open mindedness, it's sad to see that people can't be that way in regards to other things.
If people were pretending to be open-minded in order to get a shag i might understand, but if i said that there would probably be alot of people telling me ''what the fuck do you know'' or ''you are just 22, get a life'' or even label me as ''nuts,a new age thinker'' etc etc...these kinds of comments are completely irrelevant in regards to the topic, and to me suggest that the person can't create a reasoned argument that supports their argument.
And so i laugh. |

"Forego means to give up something - that's prob why people are confused by your question.
You're welcome
oh well that makes sense my bad change forgo to paarticipate "
Ive seen people come out with all kinds of stuff on here and then follow it up with 'we'll surely if people are ok with swinging then they should be ok with this'
Doesn't work that way in my opinion.

Tolerance isn't always applied as some would expect it to,
Hypocritical is not a justified conclusion for what is effectivly failing to comply with an individuals perception

your missing the point, im not asking people to comply, im asking for open-mindedness, (this shouldn't be confused with compliance) towards other peoples _iews... letting them have them and not asserting via negativity. |

You place an expectancy that as people involved in a particularly open minded activity then they should be open minded about all facets of life,
Having an understanding of one thing does not dictate the same person opinion of another,
Therefore it is not hypocritical to have these characteristics
A lack of tolerance on a certain subject is a closed minded opinion but they cannot be denied the opinion because they have open minded beliefs elsewhere,

People are misunderstanding because not only are you using nominalisation, you are using words out of context. Okay, sounds good, but actually this method proves a poor means to communicating (techno-babble) because of different interpretations of verbs being used as nouns.
If you are wanting to recognise the linguistics around "open-mindedness', may I suggest you study Korzybski and the subsequent work of Bourland and E-prime. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Lots and lots of posts suggest that lots and lots of people aren't that open-minded about sexual practice either.
We're all likely to be hypocritcal about something.
I will advance my _iews, fight my corner for the things that I care about (including challenging those with different _iews), and have a giggle at some of the _iews put forward by others. I try to be consistent, including my hypocrisy.
I will be judged on what I post just as much as I judge others on what they post. Sometimes that may affect whether I'd have sex with them and them with me.
An open, enquiring mind is a very sexy thing. A vacuous one isn't.

Nor mine!
I meet men for sex via the internet yet tell my girls to be careful of people on the internet. I was careful with what my girls ate, they're all size eight, no issues with food whilst I'm morbidly obese.
I'm a hypocrite and have absolutely no problems with that. |
