Heres goes...im thinking about learning to drive...im nearly 37...had a few lessons years ago but couldn't get my head around using gears lol...anyone out there who like me were older before having lessons and even passing their test...my parents dont know why id want to learn to drive now...and on the other hand I know it would change my life!....what to do??!!!..... |

Have you considered the automatic option. I know a lady who failed her test 7 times in a manual car. Swapped to auto and passed first time.
After a couple of years experience on the road, she re-took her manual test and passed. She was no longer stressed by the gears and the examiners because she knew she could drive safely. |

I finally passed at 30. Couldn't afford lessons before my late 20's and had to save and scrimp for those I got.
You MUST learn to drive. It is liberating in so many ways.
You WILL get your head around the gears.
Do you know anyone with a car who will let you sit in it and change the gears while stationary.
It will all fall into place eventually just like it does for everyone.
One you pass your test you learn a little more on the road each day.
And don't forget. Every other driver is the twat - not you. |

This could be a good option for you to try. How many lessons abd tests did you before? |

took lessons at 25 and also passed at 25 and also caught grandad rights for 7.5 ton wagon at the time
I couldnt catch the gears but ive driven often before id even taken lessons driving instructor showed me how low that you can go in each differnt gear and also at what speed you need to be before changing up 1-5 is roughly every 10 mph going down is fun
1st is not selected until stopped
2nd you can go as low as 5mph
3rd as low as 10-15mph
4th is 20-25mph
any lower it jerks the car my problem is I can drop the gears as im driving therefore useing less brakes but its not liked by driving examiners at the test |

Take lessons in an auto
Get comfortable with car control and reading the road,
Switch to manual before test
Definitely worth doing though,
Other option is a moped, cheap to buy and run and will give you a lot Road experience to eventually move to 4 wheels,
Whichever way you go, good luck and stick at it |

They used to teach you do that along time ago (when I passed) when a lot of cars had crappy drum brakes, not much point now brakes are wsy better and it probably costs more in fuel. |

I started to learn at 40. Passed at 42 and in 3 years I've done 4 cars in and got 6 speeding points. I absolutely love it  However my instructor vowed never to teach a 40 year old again. I didn't make it easy for him Do it. Completely opens your life up. Good luck |
