What is it with Channel 5 - all they show is Benefit shows (Benefits By The Sea, Living On Benefits, Benefit Street etc). I think not another one, yes we get the picture and I'm sure ppl are sick of hearing it now.
What are your thoughts? |

Exactly the same as yours, mate!
.......oh, & then they have special bumper overweight nights like I'm to fat to get out of bed, flush the toilet etc....
They seem to be obsessed with their own darkest agenda, very much like a tabloid 'news'paper, - I find it all a bit low & degrading tbh, but hey, they must be aiming at a certain audience, albeit a niche one, - no viewers = no channel! |

They do have an agenda and it's really distasteful. Just like the government's hate mongering against the unemployed and disabled over the last 5 years. It puts me off the channel.
We all get our opinions formed by the media, so it pays to be careful what you view. |

Apparently you're not allowed to comment on anything you're not forced to do OP, - thus seems to be the rules!! |

Are you implying that no-one on here is capable of discerning media shite from actual facts?
And FYI channel 5 had excellent programmes on Egypt last night. |

Hello O.P. and others.
Are you saying you are fed up of the benefits programmes because there are too many of them?
OR
Are you saying that Channel 5 has a political bias in showing these programmes and you are perhaps concerned about the use of air time ?
Which one pls ? |

"Too many of them, "
Thank you.
Channel 5 are very small in comparison with other channels.
They are trying to build up their cash and their repertoire.
Tabloid programmes are cheap. So they make them.
They try hard that the programme has a new viewer grabbing title/bent hence they do returning series like 'Cowboy Builder' or one off documentaries like 'Dogs on Dole'
They also do history progs ( cheap again ) News, Soaps and many life interest programmes.
They look for what is current and try for an angle on which it hasn't been covered yet.
They try to reflect 'Britains People' as they 'really are' e.g Stobbart Trucks. Can't Pay we'll take it away and Doctors behind Closed Doors etc.
I watch at least once a week. They usually have something I want to watch though I mostly avoid 5 because of the repetition. |

Both for me.
But I am surprised that they haven't pushed the boat out for the Jeremy Kyle show to slot in between them to give a little respite!! |

If you can think of a way of re packaging J.K.show and giving it a new angle and it's cheap, they'll do it.
I don't know why but Titles like..... Help I'm addicted to Benefit Shows. Keep coming to me. |

You can still have an opinion whether you are forced to watch it or not or indeed watch it at all.
To the OP...they do seem to have a lot of the same sort of programmes yes, I am guessing they are cheap to make |

It puts me off BIG TIME. Especially for those who are already struggling on benefits, it's depressing as hell.
I rather their sister channels, like 5* and so on - American Horror Story, Breaking Bad, Wentworth Prison & more NCIS than you can shake a stick at |

It's owned by Richard Desmond, pornographer-in-chief and proprietor of The Express.
It's gonna be titillating, right-wing toss |

No.
We largely as a society get our information from the media. As such they have tremendous power to shape our beliefs and opinions. Just as advertising has been shown to influence people, even when each person insists they're closed minded to the advertising influence. Propaganda has been demonstrated as highly influential.
We have choice but psychological cognitive biases are also at work, which makes us prone to extreme errors of judgement. Oh but that we were not social creatures, open to ready persuasion, with brains that are always forming conclusions, and easily seeing grey as black or white.
I avoid manipulative debasing of others, passing off as entertainment. |
