Hello I'm just wondering how many miles u would consider being local was.
Time and time again I hear people say "I'm local" then they turn out to live 40+ miles away.
I may be being silly but I'm not sure if that is " local"
Well thank u for taking the time to read/reply.
Many thanks Steve xxx

Siren and I lived 250 miles apart and getting together regularly involved a heck of a lot of driving.
40 miles seems like a short trip out to the supermarket for me now. Definately local lol |

"Wow now that is far. I think I need to re think the meaning of LOCAL lol. Xx "
pssst... 40 miles is close enough for a short notice shag and far away enough to keep yer non-swinging life separate.
If yer that way inclined. |

I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more.......
Seriously though. We would consider local anywhere within a 30min drive; local-ish within 1hrs drive; long distance anything over that. That way if it's a 'hot' meet you can stretch the distance covered in the time frame by putting your foot down |

"So I'm right in sayin the 40 ish miles is local lol and I to have a soft well not so soft spot for an accent lol xxx "
Realistically an hour each way tends to be as far as i am prepared to go. It depends upon the roads but it gives you a pretty good catchment area. What you do need to conceder is no shows. So if travelling i am looking at 2-3 phone calls min |

I have been stung by the good old no shower twice befor sadly. This is why I'm a little weary of the longer distance meets.
Don't get me wrong I will travel n do enjoy the excitement of meeting that first time. |

It's eight miles door to door from home to work. In London traffic that can take 90 minutes: 35 walking and train. I've got to Wilmslow in less time than it took me to get from my home in south London to Euston station on north London.
So for me, less than 10 miles is local! |

I'd consider local as being within an hour's drive, although as Swindon is close to the M4 you can get pretty far away in an hour.
I'd be prepared to travel further - and have done so - but wouldn't describe anywhere further afield as being within an hour.
After looking at someone's profile on here after they commented on another thread, I'm currently working out how far away Folkestone is. It's not local but looks to be do-able. |

"Too my front door and back to let them in is local for me also the longest distance i go as well "
That's usually the distance I travel but my daughter usually scuppered my plans by coming home early from college, so had Plan B!
Now she's in Derby I'm back to travelling as far as my front door! |

"hmmmmmmm interesting this one seeing as we live in Norfolk lol Saturday/Sunday was 197 miles eachway according to satnav (more cos we still got lost )"
We're starting to change from "what do you consider local" to "how far would you travel to a meet", which is not quite the same thing. |

Do you mean "stunk by the good old no shower"? I ALWAYS have a shower first.
Local is local, I don't get the dividers out onto the map.
"This is a LOCAL shop, for LOCAL people, there's nothing for you here!"
Hmmm, that brings back repressed memories, I think I may have met Tubbs and Edward on my travels.

the problem with the word "local" is that it has to be defined...
because we live on such a small island... and I come from a big country we all look at it different...
for example.... as a new yorker... for me newark is local.... Atlantic city is local... Philly is local..... wouldn't thing twice about it....
look at them on a map and not that far between them
but the difference between them in miles wise.. is the same between london and Birmingham,.. or london and bristol
and because it a smaller place everything is exagerated

We don't really go by mileage but how long it would take someone to get to us or us to get to them....an hour would be as long as we would like....that way if either party don't want to go through with it they havn't wasted too much travelling time. |

That's true if you live in a small world in your mind local is very small. |

I vote for the definition being time to get there, which allows for the variations due to geography.
e.g. those in Swindon can get an awful long way in an hour, those in Wimbledon would take 3 hours to do a 40 mile journey at times.
Don't most swingers have an exclusion zone of a few miles around their home, and the if any other tag wearing swingers enter it the alarm goes off? |

local is only used lightly, as to meet people you will have to travel.
swinging is a journey in itself .
so to get to enjoy such lovely and varied personalities, you have to set up your own limitations.
local is set only by your own preference |

Distance is not one of our boundaries, we've travelled around the UK for a meet, booking a hotel for the weekend combined with having a back up plan is always a good idea, should the meet cancel for any reason |
