just been reading in the gutter press about the prices at london duty free shops,eg calvin klein eau de toilet 44 70, amazon 20 .69. i dont bother buying at duty free, prices may be duty free, but i would think shop rent will be very high |

its the uk duty free shops, when i was in dubai the duty free shop was cheaper. |

As far as I'm aware your duty free allowance goes both ways!
And you don't have to drink it before returning.
So you can buy a bottle going out and a bottle coming back and bring both bottles back into the country |

I think you are classed as out of the country once you've passed through security. Always found its cheaper to buy stuff in resort anyway than to use duty free at either end |

From the UK authorities point of view it Doesn't matter what you buy going out - but the country you are entering may have limits on what you can bring in to their country without paying duty .
In the same way the UK has the allowable limits on what you can bring in without paying duty.

when you buy at duty free they ask for your flight ticket and if eu wont give it to you at duty free price, and when your in duty free zone at airport shouldnt the bars sell at duty free as well

Unless you are going transatlantic you will not get duty free(Amazed how many people don't realise this,but still buy things in duty free but end up paying more than they could buy for on Ebay)

I rarely buy in the UK. Some airports used to have a price guarantee, which would only match with high street shops, not online. I always compare before, even if it means phoning ahead, which is cheap. I'd only pay 1p a minute calling the USA, so even phoning there for 10 minutes could ensure I get the right deal. Currently planning on a new laptop, such as a 2 in one, complete with solid state drive. Don't think our duty free will win that one. |

With the low prices in supermarkets now, I simply don't bother buying duty free and less an exceptional deal, cant be assed with the hassle of carrying simply to save a few pounds |

At many airports you can buy at the duty free price, even for EU flights - the retailer just discounts the price and you still pay duty, leaving it the same price as if you were flying out of the EU. Not for tobacco or booze though, but for electrical etc. It's potentially a way to save on a laptop etc, and they may let you have it waiting on your return. |
