Mmmmmmm! This is a tasty burger!

So anyone who's seen Pulp Fiction know's that Jules Winnfield knows his stuff when it comes to burgers.

I may have consumed the odd one or two in my time - probably a few less than Ryan ( ) - but I've just discovered something new in the world of 'tasty burgers'!

Wagyu.

Described by wiki as "literally 'Japanese Cow', any of several breeds of cattle, the most desired of which is genetically predisposed to intense marbling and to producing a high percentage of oleaginous unsaturated fat. The meat from such wagyu cattle is known for its quality, and commands a high price", I stumbled upon these burgers purely by chance whilst strolling past a certain frozen food vendor popular with Kerry Katona and Peter Andre.

Basically I've just consumed two Japanese cow burgers from Iceland.

I've had many an odd burger - shark, kangaroo, ostrich and some vague, unlabelled meat in Thailand and Hong Kong. But bugger me do these Japanese cows taste good!

Anyone got any other recommendations or suggestions for interesting and obscure burgers?

They had that at the restaurant I was in at the weekend. Absolutely lush. Probably not quite to the same standard as Iceland though!

No one does a tastier burger than Mr DDC. He has a whole cookbook devoted to them and we've yet to have a duff one. (Do the Simpsons do them?)

One has brussel sprouts in it which he tried on our friend who hates them. She loved it!

Try Dexter beef if its marbling you are after. They are a slow to mature rare breed that are tiny in comparison to Aberdeen Angus but with a better flavour meat. And not niche market they are British so relatively easy to source x

Mrs DDC "

Creep!

You can't get round me that easily!

In truth we're lucky enough to still have an old-fashioned butcher who still gets properly aged scottish beef.

Like when making sausages, the fat content is important for both flavour and juiciness, but since you're mincing it, marbling is less important than if you're cooking it as a steak.

Half rump, loosely blitzed/chopped, half normal mince, plus salt, pepper, horseradish, with a round of stilton hidden in the centre is my fave beef, but a mix of pork mince and minced bacon, topped with a slice of pineapple thickly coated in brown sugar before being fried in butter, is my fave.

"The great big burger book"

(But be careful, it's American, so they have all kinds of different names for stuff! )

Lidl do some amazing fresh rolls, and for some reason people are always amazed when I make triangular burgers for the triangular rolls they do!

Mr ddc

Sounds delish, will have to try some.

Watched a programme about it a few years ago n they were calling it kobe beef, which I'm assuming is one of the breeds of wagyu cattle?

They were giving them beer and regular massages...lucky cows!
