Does anyone else keep one?

I've written in mine - different books, of course - since Christmas 2011. It's probably my most treasured possession. Creative writing's one of my hobbies, so writing regular entries helps that, and I find that it's good therapy too

Exactly

Sometimes I read through hard times & remind myself how far I've come, others I read back on the good times and appreciate them.

"I write music instead."

I used to do that as a teen, just the words as I can't compose. Though I went through a stage when I was 20/21 where I didn't have a journal but I wrote buckets of poetry instead.

I'm crap at lyrics so it's mostly instrumentals.

To those that do or have done,

are you totally honest with your journals? Ie do you go into detail?

Started once when I went on holiday felt embarrassed after the first two days...started writing erotica instead.

Yeah, I'm totally honest. I don't ever let anyone get near it though.

Gosh don't think I could be totally open to something that doesn't speak back...would feel like it's judging me...

Might try and pick up a blog again, enjoy writing like it's for someone even if it's only me reading it.

Mine is a photography journal online. I used to be honest, probably too honest but too many people read it. I'm not dishonest now, I'm just much more guarded about what I say. It's a shame cause it was a really good outlet but I keep doing it out of habit and because my memory is so shite it's good to have a record of my life.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I kept one from about the age of 11 until about 3 years ago.

I think it's no coincidence that I am so loquacious here and no longer keep a journal.

I have them all (bar four years of late teens that were destroyed by my abusive first partner) I plan on destroying them as soon as I can make myself.

:O

Surely you should keep them as some sort of memoir. Perhaps edit (take out the rude bits) them into an autobiography for your family tree...

It's history...

Itsy a history of depression and misery with sex and work thrown in. Others have done it better.
