Prince, he's a genius! Better musician than everyone else in his band. Used to be a brilliant dancer until age got the better of him. Find his performance from Montreaux Jazz a few years ago; utterly brilliant performance. |

Someone I know had a poster of Prince on all fours on his bedroom wall and was drooling over it until I pointed out it was a man
He thought it was a woman with a drawn on moustache |

Fair enough, not 100% sure of details and no guitar skills of my own to refer to,
can't find it but remember the video and the other famous artist's on stage with him where looking on in amazement, would have to ask the guy that shown me ages ago, |

Michael Jackson for us. We never really got into Prince but acknowledge how good he was/is. Suppose when you look at it (in our opinion) you hear many people associate Purple Rain with Prince, however, with Michael Jackson you don't really associate one particular song (well, we don't) as there's so many hits to choose from.

"I'll never forget waiting in a night club for the Thriller video to be released at 1am - it was such a milestone. "
Was woken up to watch it. WOW WOW WOW!! Amazed so many kids watched it live, well, on the official release anyway and was the talk of the school. Great memories.
Him. |

Jackson just rehashed all his dance moves, nothing new for years. He even stole the Moonwalk
Prince was a natural mover. Although he really channelled James Brown on his moves. |

Prince for me
Listen to the guitar solo on this, then decide.. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9Y

Oh, well it's not often I'am wrong (YeRight) but today is one of them days, that's the video I was talking about above, I was told he lost a string and that is why he shows the guitar about 5min in,
Still No contest between him and that kiddyfiddler though as far as musical talent goes,
Personal taste will let you chose your own preference though |

Prince.
Not just for his own output, but as well as choons he wrote for other artists.
Chaka Khan, Sinead O'connor and many more.
Could play just about any instrument you put in front of him.
Songwriter, producer, mentor...
Legend. |

Prince without doubt.
The song 'Bad' was at one time discussed as being a duet between the two.
Prince did'nt care for it though citing that he would'nt sing the first line of 'Your ass is mine' to Jackson and that Jacko was sure as hell not singing it to him. |

"Jackson relied heavily on Quincey Jones for a considerable chunk of his (limited) output, Prince relies on himself and reputedly has well over 10,000 songs recorded- pretty much sums it up really"
Michael jackson wrote the majority of his songs, and was more than a singer and dancer, an entertainer.
The whle new generation from chris brown, beiber, even older like usher, neyo, genuwine, beyonce even madonna have said mj inspired them to become singers, Prince just inspired some crack hippy who is staggering at some festival |

Unfair to compare them. Prince is a musical genius, an incomparable talent.
Michael Jackson was an amazing singer and dancer. In a league of his own, but could barely scratch the surface of what Prince is capable of. |

Ben, the two of us need look no more.....
Prince, by a mile though i'm not a fan of either.
As with both past and modern times, huge sales are not the true marker of quality. |

Such a shame MJ never died before he inspired Bieber! |

"Didn't Jackson erm..... you know........with those kids?
His Purpleness would never do that."
Not guilty was the considered verdict. I think he was foolish and naive, and yes pretty wacko, but not actually doing what he was accused of. |

Prince never conformed to any one style. Look at the difference between the phenomenally successful Purple Rain and the album that followed it, Around The World In A Day.
Once he releases an album, he's done with it, and is moving on to his next project.
His output, whilst not always classic, is prolific.
But it's on stage where I feel he edges MJ. To play instruments better than his band members, excluding brass, to be one of the best guitarists ever (check out the While My Guitar Gently Weeps video mentioned earlier), and to have the ability to leap off a piano into the splits, then slide himself upright using his feet...incredible. An underrated dancer, although as mentioned, age is doing it's thing now.
Seen him many times, never fails to blow me away.
And yes, I did see MJ at the height of his fame. Meh, was OK. |

Prince without doubt. Prince was pure talent: wrote the music, the lyrics, played the music, sang the lyrics, produced his own music, ran his own record label, wrote and produced hits for others and was a genuinely considered himself to be just another human being, nothing special other than his musical talents.
MJ didn't write much, couldn't write music, didn't play much, didn't do anything that wasn't on the backs of others talents. He considered himself an extraordinary talent that deserved to be loved and even worshiped. An adults ego wrapped up in the mind of a child. Talking of kids, his love of them went a little too far....
Thriller (his biggest success) captured the zeitgeist of the moment back in the 80's, out of the 12 songs he only wrote 4 himself, rather he only wrote 4 song lyrics himself. Rod Temperton wrote Thriller and it's him that knew Vincent Price not MJ.
So all in all, Prince was a really talented musician and writer, MJ captured a moment thanks to the hard work of others. They're not even in the same league.

They both had genius qualities, Prince was probably more of an all round musician and MIchael Jackson as the performer - nobody can deny that, the amount of records they both sold was incredible.
I prefer Michael Jackson's music, but loved the idea of Prince in terms of doing everything himself etc. |

"Jackson, personally"
Me too - never quite got Prince at the time, his vocals didn't really do it for me (Kiss for example), but I have found that I enjoy quite a bit of his music now.
There's no denying that MJ can fill an empty dance floor within seconds. Never seen ANY Prince track do that, ever. QED. |

pretty much this..
if one had written and produced an LP for the other then Prince's production would have outsold Jackson's..

The sheer musicality of the man as a performer is unparalleled and places him with the greats of jazz, like miles Davies and Charlie Parker. He was so much more than a pop star. |
