So a group of kinky friends and I are off to Amsterdam tomorrow! We are there until Friday evening.Have you guys got any recommendations as to what to do? I've already checked out the coffee shops near where we are staying, and not being the keenest person in the world on the sex industry, probably going to give that a miss in the evening.

There's the Anne Frank museum, and I'm going to have a look at cannabis college and hopefully graduate with a first from there.

Are there any other MUST SEE things I've missed? What's the food like out there? Thanks all xx

Heineken brewery

Boat trip on the canal

Sex museum-it's interesting

Just walking the cobbled streets by the canals.

Been on a swingers site I'd imagine the sex shows and all things sex would interest you (maybe not the others lol)

Hello Mimeieux,

there's a spectacular spa near the centre, The Art Deco Sauna, worth going if you like spas, nudist of course.

The Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are both good places if you want a bit of culture.

Vondlepark is good to go for a chillout if the weather's nice. A lot of the locals head there at the weekend.

I was planning a visit with my now ex, and we were talking about doing all the 'sex' bits together...Idk how a single 22 year old female would go down at a sex show? Also sex for sex's sake does very little for me on my own, definitely something to do with a partner/partners

Vondelpark is definitely getting visited!

Buy your tickets for Anne Frank in advance if you can, or get there very early. By 10 am the queues are nearly 2 hours long.

Exhibition of 5000 dolls is the creepiest place I've ever seen.

And Glogolf is a fantastic way to spend an evening.

Just got back again

We stay in the red light district in the hotel cc...bang in the heart of it....bars etc...

As already mentioned

Van Gough + museum -- book online or face the consequences

There is also an Escher museum -train ride (not been)

I bet you are too late to book for Anne Frank so be prepared for the biggest wait in your life lol

Canal trip is good but NOT on the hottest day of the year....purgatory....almost dived off twice to swim to the side.

Previous year we did a dinner cruise and that was great.

The Dutch are cool... Just avoid the d*unken English an Germans and all will be well.

Don't do anything illegal

Have fun

You could always get completely whacked on space cakes and wander round lost for 3 hours after realising that most Amsterdam

streets look exactly the same.

My tip is avoid cakes lol

They take ages to kick in and can't be stopped.... The sex can be good though...

They sell legal smokeable stuff that doesn't involve tobacco if u want to smoke in bars... It's illegal to smoke tobacco inside..

So I've been her 24 hours and I am loving the city. My friends are not morning people so we went off to a little coffee shop for breakfast and a morning smoke. I've been looking at English speaking jobs out here...!

This is the art gallery where you cycle on bikes through the park, methinks?

If you fancy something quirky and different and (usually a bit quieter) try the museum ons lieve heer op solder - our Lord in the attic.

It's from the times when it was illegal to be catholic so the catholics had to create secret churches. You go in through a traditional canal house and work your way up the floors up tiny staircases and through small rooms to suddenly come out in a full size church!

If the sun is shining get a take out coffee and popje and head down to the big pink triangle, it's a memorial to the gays that the nazis killed during occupation. It's a great place to chill and reflect and watch the world go by.

The best meals I've had in Amsterdam have been the cheapest ones. Look out for Eethuis, they're like a greasy spoon cafe with long tables so you sit next to whoever and the kitchen is a little kiosk in the corner. They generally have a list of food scrawled up on the wall or you can just point at someone else's meal and say that's what you want.

They used to be mainly Indonesian but now you find Ethiopian and North African ones too. The rule of thumb is to ignore how scruffy or run down it looks, all the food is cooked fresh to order, pick the place that's busy.

There are also some great turkish takeaway places. The kebabs are good but if they've got the proper oven then go for a pide or lahmacun (la ma jun) both of which get called turkish pizza. Pide is a flatbread filled and pinched at the corners to hold it in then baked.

Lahmacun is a very thin flatbread seasoned with herbs and spices and sprinkled with a spiced ground meat mix, baked then topped with salad and rolled. Both delicious.

If you walk past an olliebollen stall indulge! Especially if they have the apple stuffed ones. They're dutch doughnuts and are totally unhealthy but really scrummy, with a big coffee they're a perfect hangover cure or even after a few beers to sop up the alcohol

I got some kick ass biker boots at the Waterlooplatz (or Waterlooplein?) market a few years back. I loved the Stejdlik gallery as well. And try a Dutch curry house; the food is lush and very spinachy.

I went to waterlooplein and it was very tooty and touristy, alll shirts saying 'i love Amsterdam' with a naked lady or a canabis leaf. Ended up in the rijk museum for a bit and the big square behind it. Didn't make it to the red light district although my travel compatriots did and said it was super touristy. I found that with waterlooplein, and the surrounding areas ... You could've been anywhere, espscially in the central coffee shops. The firs. (and local) one we went to was incredibly warm and welcoming. In the centre, I found them to be cool places with no atmosphere, and I'd rather spend money on lesser quality but get a vibe for the place. So yesterday was a bit of a disappointment: I might go on an adventure to find somewhere cool and a bit more local today though
