We all know that the word 'Gay' used to have a different connotation but did you know.....
'Nice' used to mean sliver or thin or narrow. People could have a nice escape and requested a nice piece of cake......the latter morphing the word into its new meaning.
'Rude' used to mean unfinished. A wooden bench that hadn't been sanded was said to be a rude bench. Unfinished became unrefined which then became undesirable and offensive.
I found it interesting....thought you might too |

Rude still gets used in that context by many a Journeymen.....
At school we were encouraged not to use the word nice in reference to another person.
The reason given was nice indicated a person of loose virtue / prostitute....
The example given to us in song......
i.e. All the nice girls love a sailor....

Speaking of words....journeyman is not in common use nowadays.
And not using the word 'nice' because of a songs lyrics... Did you go to a Catholic school by any chance????
