Houses that look like show homes are a bit of a put off. Never feel as though I can relax without fear of the host straightening things every time ya move. |

No apologies needed, think most would be with you on that. People really need to look at their photos before uploading them, now off to check ours |

Pets on bed
Dead plants
Flattened cushions/pillows
Mismatched bedding/towels/cutlery
Migraine inducing colour schemes
Foul smells
No evidence that a hoover/duster/water has been used on any surface
My other half is a slob...you can imagine my pain. |

I'm with you on the messy backgrounds in photos.
Also surely if you were having guests you would tidy up. Or at least hide the mess lol
I'm a snob because I'd be put off if it was a dodgy area. |

So glad we don't host, it's a bit show homeish but we don't do that straightening thing and fussing that some folk do, we wait for our cleaner to that for us. ... Just kidding.
It has to be dirty sheets, and a general sense of uncleanliness. We meet mainly in hotels which takes this out of the equation, well, it has so far.

Our house is normal. We don't have posh stuff but what we do have is clean. Sometimes its untidy because we care more about the people visiting us than we do about picking up the paper they just read or moving the coffee things if we're having a great chat. Do you know what? Sometimes we sit among the dirty dinner plates and talk to our guests...I know crazy isn't it, its not as if they've come to see us or anything. |

I'm desperately trying to get a pic of Mrs ddc naked on our dining room table with "I wish my husband was this dirty" written in the dust. But every time I manage to get the house dirty enough, we have people round and she keeps dusting it, grrr
{off to get my big hammerdrill out again... }

I like a house that is lived in. not dirty but it doesn't need to be a show home. I'm so glad I don't accommodate as I fear my home wouldn't come up to people's high expectations.....we have cats and kids and a husband that leaves bits of bicycle on the dining room table....there is always washing up waiting to go into the dishwasher as mine goes on about 3 times a day....one of my favourite houses to visit is a friend of mine whose house is a bit like a building site with stuff everywhere but you don't really notice it because the people are lovely. So what puts me off? Unwelcoming hosts who follow you around with a cloth and a vacuum cleaner. |

Lack.of care at home means lack of care for themselves usually.
No curtains in bedroom, just blinds, torn wallpaper, stained carpets, damp towels in a heap..
Some people just dont see how they live...
Long term untidy or just moved in/having work done are a world apart. |
