Funny how you can get upset over a Goldfish, had them roughly 18 month there were 3 to start with now just one left just started to bloat and it stayed at the bottom of the tank and went off its food

Up on them there hills

One of ours flapped it's flipper for the last time a little while ago, thought the daughter would be in tears. No she spent more time comforting me.

Did you do regular 1/4 water changes to keep the nitrites down?

My friend's goldfish died and her daughter was distraught.

"Don't worry," she said, "Sparky's gone to heaven."

"Is heaven down the toilet, 'cos that's where daddy put him?"

"Did you do regular 1/4 water changes to keep the nitrites down?"

Yes every week, then a complete change monthly. We did google it and there's a illness called dropsy which our fish showed all the symptoms of

I used to win loads from the fair when the kids were younger.

Three died on the trip home

Three died the next day

Two died within a week

One lasted 7 years.... Go figure

Monthly whole change is dangerous. It takes at least 3 months for de nitrifying bacteria to start working. A whole water change every month will reduce the effectiveness.

I had one for 5 years when I was little. Was devastated when it died. My Dad said he'd buried it in the garden, I make a little cross and everything.

How gullible was I?!

Just out of interest would flushing a fish down your toilet not cause a blockage?

Compared to the size/quantity of stuff your own body sends down, a teensy wee goldfish ain't gonna block it up

But the stuff that comes out of a body can break down easily....a goldfish is more ....solid...

You should have called the first one "ONE " and the second one called it "TWO".

That way if one dies you still have two

If you can catch them, you can have all the baby goldfish from our big pond. If they keep breeding at their current rate, it will be like a sardine tin next summer!

Thats not so bad then, if you do have kids at least you wont be too upset explaining 'life' and whatnot.

In this case I reckon I wont be too bad when the hamster snuffs it soon. She's coming up to 18 months old and they dont live mch longer than that

What's the point in having a wee furry if you can't get a cuddle?

They are very short sighted and any smell of food on your hands can result in a bite. Been bitten many times. Doesn't put me off.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away & Spain

Overcrowding? Over feeding? Incorrect method of changing water?

I get you thought fishes were easy pets too.

As for flushing down the loo - no they won't break down the same way as human waste & cause blockage. Incidentally neither does cat poo as my neighbour recently discovered when she had a blockage.
