So in 6 days you will be able to upgrade FREE to Win 10 apparently the best of Win 7 and 8.1 joined together for a better OS

So will be upgrading ?

Those running dodgy copies of windows will also be able to get the free upgrade.

Even people with dodgy copies can upgrade to win 10? Will that then make it a legit windows?

Windows 10 is set to be the best yet!

I have previewed it, jad it running as a developer for the last 5 weeks, it's as stable as 7 with a few little extras from 8.1 thrown in for good measure.

My advise is to try it, if you don't like it then revert back to 7 which is better than 8.

Just my 2 cents worth.

The start menu is in the right place too!

Unlike 8 where you had to search for it, I believe 8.1 had the issue sorted? Once I previewed 8 I put in my report, Microsoft said thanks for the input and they were doing something about it, I didn't get to see 8.1 though.

8.1 was a vast improvement over 8 and i actually like unlike others, however must say win 10 looks awesome, am considering upgrading my main laptop today lol

I would wait until its public, the developers preview still has a few bits that need to be ironed out.

Saying that, I do like what they have done.

8.1 was excellent and very stable; although not exactly bringing back the start menu it was simple to put your own 'pop up' start menu on the task bar. Probably the best version of Windows I've ever used.

Personally I'm not going to be an early adopter; let others be 'first on the barb wire fence'. You only have 30 days to downgrade if you don't like it BTW

I can always downgrade back to be honest and have the latest update so should be fairly stable

Also have the RTM version lol

For me best bits are the start menu, being able to draw on web pages and the general GUI Havent tried cortana yet but will be giving her a work over lol

30 days to downgrade? Well I have all editions of windows on disc to downgrade or upgrade older PC's so no need to worry on the timescale from Microsoft.

start menu is what most people have said on the forums so far

Just waiting for all the people that didn't get the free upgrade email, then I'm gonna be busy upgrading for a few months

Classicshell is free and fixes 8 and 8.1 start menu issues

It is 10 because they want it seeing as a hole new operating system and not a continuation of 8 which it would have been if they called it 9

Well worth the upgrade sign up, but I would suggest avoid the potential cluster mess and let it roll out a few days before hitting the go button,

Wasn't aware it had been confirmed free for unlicensed users outside China , last I heard it maybe a feature reduced version,

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

Right odd behaviour on microsucks part,

It is available for all users, but if your version was considered unlicensed before the upgrade it will still be classed as unlicensed after, so potential limited functionality, lamb to slaughter it sounds like

They could just turn it off,

Suppose have to keep it fair or it would be a kick in the face for all those that paid for it,

We'll worth signing up for 7 while it's cheap, 10s purchase price is £99 for home users

They have been beta testing win 10 for quite some time with insider previews being available for feedback and bug testing.

With such a huge release im fairly sure they will make sure 99.9% of the bugs will be fixed before official roll out.

As for the unlicensed side of things their are several work arounds which would deem that useless, for instance certain activators can actually use the MS servers to activate meaning you receive full updates and MS are none the wiser, these are already available for win 10.

I'm actually still on W7 at the moment (there was so much pissing and moaning that I thought I'd take the "tick tock" logic and avoid it), so I'll be interested to see how it all works together.

Believe day 1 is still planned as a peer to peer, may prove me wrong but release day tend to be a mass of people trying to download simultaneously and bottlenecking the system, if it fails mid process could cause issues

P2p may work though, but I'am planning to let it roll out and if the boat don't sink after a few days hitting the button

Welcome to OS as a service.

I used KMSpico for Win 8/8.1 and Office. I now have a new PC with Win 8.1 but KMSpico worked well for me.

I'm looking forward to Win10 and hope their new web browser is a bit smoother and more stable than ie11 currently is

I'm on 7 and reserved my copy a few weeks ago. It should make better use of my hardware, re efficiencies.

It downloads and installs itself as if it's just an update, rather than a new programme. So simple for non-techie user.

Backup all your data ready beforehand, just in case.

with windows 10 it changes

no doubt they want people off windows 7 due to the SLIC certs piracy issue, thats why the secure boot bios` was implemented as they cannot revoke OEM keys for the millions of users that have them in their bios from the factory.

corporate seem to be rolling out windows 7 still, its their new 2k/xp so support will run for along time, pc gamers will be the ones needing windows 10

be warned many a driver may not work until its upgraded by the companies if they do the upgrade otherwise you could be left with no sound or other things not working

Windows mobile 10 release will be staggered, some time after the pc version. I believe you have to have 8.1 on your phone to get it. Plus your phone needs to be compatible. Worth a search to check your model is compatible. 8.1 is a great version.

If you're unsure if your pc is compatible with 10, you can run their check first, which diagnoses your hardware and drivers as ok or not.

I've 4 systems scheduled so will test it out on the non-critical ones first and then decide if I'll go for it on my main ones.

Tried and quickly binned 8, too many compatibility issues for me, 8.1 so far seems ok if a bit irritating here and there. As for Cortana, no thanks. They accidentally released it for android ahead of schedule if you wanna try it

And 10 will be more efficient than 7 / 8. I definitely have loved XP but it's now unsupported so potentially risky.
