The 72 virgin thing.
There was a tv program a few years ago which showed that in the oldest known version of the Qur'an the phrase read "72 white grapes". This was miscopied I to 72 virgins.
In short if they f*cked off to Asda and just bought a bag of grapes there would be far less idiots killing themselves and innocent people in the name of a fairy tale misquoted in a book. |

That's an urban myth. An urban myth lambasting some made up bollocks but an urban myth nonetheless. Search wikislam for the word "houri" and you can learn all about it. |

Cool - I'll bite. What's your evidence for this being true?
As a counter to what you will post here is what Wikislam has to say on the matter -
"This false myth of "white raisins" originated from Christoph Luxenberg, a modern author writing under a pseudonym.[39] His anti-Islamic claim,[40] which has been accused of having a "Christian apologetic agenda",[41] is that the Qur'an was drawn from Christian Syro-Aramaic texts in the early 8th century, in order to evangelize the Arabs,[42] and that the Aramaic word 'hur' (white raisin) had been mistranslated by later Arab commentators into the Arabic word 'houri' (virgin).[43]
The Qur'an describes the physical characteristics of the houri in many places, and a reading of relevant verses show that Luxenberg's theory regarding heavenly white raisins is in error.
Raisins, which are dried grapes, cannot have large eyes,[17] big breasts,[20] cannot restrain their glances,[25] cannot be described as chaste,[25] or have any of the characteristics listed above. The Qur'an further states that men will be wed to these houri.[1] Men cannot be married to raisins or white grapes.
Additionally, for someone to accept this "72 raisins" theory, they would also have to accept that the Qur'an was not written by Allah or revealed to the Prophet Muhammad in Arabic during the 7th century, but was in fact written by Christian evangelists in Syro-Aramaic during the 8th century."
I assume you'll be able to counter each of those references with factual information that shows those statements to be wrong, yes? |

Let's think this through...
Wikislam was written by a) people who were looking to be objective and step back from the politics of religion or b) by people looking to defend the core tennet of Islam ?
And do you really believe a bloke with wings descended from heaven to reveal the inner most thoughts of the universes most powerful figure to an illiterate bloke halfway up a mountain in 6th century Arabia?
It's all bollox. Unfortunately it's the sort of bollox that gets people killed. |

OMG ! I have one of those little boxes of "sun maid " raisins. I just looked it says contains 72. wtf !
All the statements there are matters of belief not absolute fact. you cant refute belief but youshouldnt also mistake belief as being a fact |

Given the balance of probability what's more likely a bloke with wings popping up to reveal the wisdom of the divine creator or someone doing a typo? Religion is bollox. Some religion is more bollox than other religions ( to misquote Orwell) |

It's written by Islamic scholars. One would imagine they have actually some expertise on the subject.
"And do you really believe a bloke with wings descended from heaven to reveal the inner most thoughts of the universes most powerful figure to an illiterate bloke halfway up a mountain in 6th century Arabia?"
No I don't. I'm not a Muslim. I don't remember stating a personal belief at all in fact. Why are you attempting to redirect?
"It's all bollox. Unfortunately it's the sort of bollox that gets people killed."
I can't help but notice you have failed to provide evidence for your point that this whole raisins thing is true. I have provided you with a source so that you can read the actual parts of the Qur'an and also with a source that this raisin thing is a recent creation from a biased source that doesn't stand up to historical scrutiny given the 150 variation between the suggested genesis of Islam and it's actually historically verified beginnings.

The evidence is in a BBC horizon program which looked at examples of the Qur'an found in Yemen and dated at around the 7th century. I'll leave you believe in your space faeries who visited an illiterate bloke in the desert of Arabia. |

Didn't see that episode listed on the BBC's Horizon page between 2000 and 2015. Are you sure it was Horizon? Also, since I've stated clearly now that I don't believe in any magical woo bollocks I'm not sure that you're reading what I am actually saying. |

I'm not sure that being "Anti Murder" can be construed as being in anyway racist, but then again I'm also not sure how murdering people because they don't believe in your views can be tied to religion.
Ultimately, I'm fairly sure that the extremist/terrorist minority factions are a constant embarrassment to all the good and decent followers of Islam around the world. |
