As a boy in the 70's I was riding my bike, as was the thing back then wearing only a small pair of brown nylon shorts, cannot remember how it happened but I managed to crash into a dyke (was living in Lincolnshire) that's a drainage ditch to the childish of mind btw.
Anyway ended up 6ft down said dyke full of nettles got stung head to toe screaming all way home, mum sat me in cold bath for a good two hrs.
Then used about three bottles of calamine lotion on me.
Would love to say I ended up with some awesome super power
Sadly just hurt like a bastard for about 6/8 hrs.
Didn't sleep much, and mums being like they were back then gave me a clip round the earhole a couple of day's later for being such an idiot. |

Nettles are the bain of the walks the pooch and I go on. Hurrah for the trusty doc leaf .
Though on the plus side they do provide a breading nursery for butterflies.
So nettles , well done its worth the sting |

Brown nylon shorts were not complete unless you had one of those snake belts. And wore a pair of monkey boots.
No idea why they were called that just remember the yellow stitching.

I was camping once and saw a toddler fall head first into a great big bunch of stinging nettles....poor little mite. |

Nettle stings are acidic. Is vinegar an alkali? If so makes sense. |
