Facebooks started advertising

Burton upon stather

So, I've noticed Facebook had started advertising in TV instead of the word of mouth that's always brought people in.

Could the company that makes profit selling your private information actually be losing members wising up to them?

I know myself and a few of my friends have been steadily boycotting the site, I deleted my account over a year's ago.

I guess FB are losing accounts as much as they win more accounts each day. Their TV adverts may be a trial to test the traditional ad model after Zuckerberg made a statement mentonioning his uncertainty of the effectiveness for FB. We shall see.

It's amazing how much you don't miss it after you delete your account.

Simply put, it's about as interesting as your friends social lives. Since we are at the age that all our friends are breeding like rabbits, it's incredibly boring. No I don't care about little Johnny's first tooth and I know you get out once a month but that doesn't mean I want to see a picture of your dinner.

Probably losing people. So much rubbish on there its unbelievable. From graphic violence to porn.

We haven't deleted ours because we get in contact with family and friends that are abroad through it but rarely on it

That's probably a reflection of how dull you appear to find your friends rather than Facebook itself though

It's definitely losing members. With the onset of more and more IM tools and apps, social networks (such as Facebook's design) are slowly becoming old hand. It's partly a reason why Google+ flopped - twas a model going out of fashion. FB was already around, and people weren't even interested in the format to try it.

I find youth especially stick to WhatsApp/Kik/Snapchat/iMessage etc, even Twitter.

I do still use FB, but more due to everyone else still having one. I use it for Messenger and organising Events, but not really for posting statuses etc.

Still, FB has had TV adverts for a while now but you're correct, it's just an attempt at another advertising strategy.

Taking a nice full resolution photo and letting Facebook mash it to shit and reduce the quality of your images for storage isn't a very good idea

Partially, there are mums-net types who find it facinating to see little Johnny's scribbles. But I don't think the average person cares what their friends eat for dinner or is itching to see another selfie
