"Is it actually about two people who've never met getting married?
Yes.
Just shows marriage has no value anymore, that's disgusting.
Let the gays have it at least it'll mean something to someone "

"This just sounds like my sort of car crash telly. When's it on? "
I saw a clip and want to watch it. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised at some successes. Let's face it - people picking their own only have half a chance and dating agencies are no different to marriage at first site e.g say what your looking for and someone finds it for you. |

The value of marriage does not start and end with the ceremony. Marriage is what grows between two people over the years.
You're confusing pomp and circumstance with relationships.
It isn't disgusting at all. |

I mean gay marriage is still denied and illegal in a lot of places worldwide while straight couples can have a sham marriage lasting a week and nobody cares.
Does that seem right to you?
I really don't understand why anybody would watch crap like that show unless they too think marriage means nothing but a ring and a party |

As you had to ask what the programme is about I guess it's safe to say you haven't watched it.
Why not inform yourself before condemning ? |

1. You've not seen it so it's a misinformed comment.
2. You undermined their marriages for no reason.
3. "Let the gays have it" is pretty much saying "God it's worthless now, may as well let those second class gays have it". |

Not at all, my point was that a straight couple can get married for five minutes while a gay couple who've been together for years are denied the right to marry in parts of the world and it would mean a lot more to them than a lot of people who take it for granted.
Doesn't seem fair to me.
Of course others are free to comment but they replied for you presuming to know what you were thinking and I wanted to hear your thoughts. |

What makes gay people more likely to value marriage??
My ex colleague had a civil union with his partner and cheated on him all the time.. Gay people are human too and just because by law they are bound doesnt mean they hold in any higher respect than straight people |

That's one person and one example but of course the majority of gay people would appreciate it more as it's a huge jump forward for society and their acceptance afterwards being denied the right to marry while others can do it for TV without even having a date.
Hell, I can think of five couples who got divorced less than three years after getting married off the top of my head.
Three more that are separated in a similar space of time.
My original point was that for a lot on people marriage just doesn't mean what it used too. |

I'm talking about couples who have been together for years and are denied marriage, civil partnerships don't count.
I've never been married and don't plan to, if I had been with someone happily for five years or more and we wanted to then sure I'm open to it.
I'd rather wait, do it once and do it right then risk rushing into it. |

So basically you are talking about something you know squat all about then!
Just because you have been with someone longer doesnt mean you have rushed into it!
My parents were together less than a year when married and together 36yrs later,
Others I have known be together for 10yrs and split up within a year of marriage!
Until you have been married you cannot say what it means to a person or how much harder it can be being married than in a relationship!
but according to you as im not gay my marriage meant nothing to me at all and I didnt take it seriously!

Yes, that's exactly what I said... "
It is.. Read back what you are saying!
Your argument that gay people value marriage more is absurd!

Tbh.....although many will say its ridiculous you have to remember this is an experiment, after 5 weeks of marriage the show will anull any vows taken etc if they decide they don't want to be married...so no harm done, and maybe between them something good will come of it! |

Theres gay people who have got divorced/separated in under a year too! Sexuality means jack all!
Have you actually ever been married?

I can't believe you'd consider marriage when gays all over the world don't have the same rights
I've been trying to ignore you but I'll just say this once as you clearly haven't got it.
I'm not interested in anything you have to say because you're not contributing anything to the discussion other than trying to attack me.
Really? ONLY attacking you? Ah well. Rights for gays.
Anyway let's get back on track...
Would you, get married at first sight...
A simple yes or no will suffice "
Yes Tig. |

I almost did a few years ago. Luckily it didn't go forward.
It's definitely something I'd consider if I were to be single again, although I'm very happy with my current partner. |

Oh definitely.
Me saying that a gay couple who've lived together as a married couple for years but have been denied the right to marry would appreciate being allowed to more than a couple who get divorced after a week definitely translates to no straighteners coupled values marriage |

Are you aware that gay people in England are able to do the exact same thing?
You seem really worried about it, but you needn't be. Gay marriage is allowed. |

We're not just talking about England, in America there's states where itself legal to marry a horse but not somebody of the same sex for example |

Gay marriage was legalised in the U.S. on a federal scale in June. |

You know your argument is flawed, civil partnership has been around for some time and gay people are now allowed to marry so maybe actually keep up to date with the laws!
Or are you just trying to say you wanted to marry a man and werent allowed.. Its ok just come out of the closet |

Good to hear, thanks. |
